Default Engine shampoo...should i get it?

Was under the hood the other day, and my new car look was gone, the engine was all gritty, and i've bearly taken her off road, my detail shop offers an engine shampoo, is it wise to get it done?
i keep hearing horror stories of water getting into car computers, how secure is my LR3's valuble bits?
should i get my tiny V6 all prettied up or not?

If your detail shop is worth their salt, they'll cover your electronics to prevent getting them wet.

I get the engine shampoo on the Disco twice a year. How else would I know where the leaks are coming from if the mud is blocking it?

Depends, will you go with Mousse or Gel for the final style?

On my 99 D2, I go to the do it yourself car wash after every trail power scrubbing the entire truck, especially the engine. Never had a problem, makes it easy to see problems before they get bad and alot easier to work on.
Here's my engine at nearly 9 years old with just under 100,000 miles.
