Very nice ! Thanks for the detailed steps you took. I plan to add them to my 04 soon ! What do you think about putting the 55w version in my LR driving lights on my grill guard ?

I'm not a lighting engineer so I really don't know. I was merely providing it has an opinion that differs from all the HID hype.
I'd be interested to know specifically which parts of it are wrong.

I'll dig harder and post later when I have more time rather than just spending a moment or two on the computer like I am now, but I'm going to have to agree with JoMar. It's a bunch of bashing done by someone that has something to sell. Indeed just like the HID retailers who exaggerate their product as well, though if you do your own research you'll still be able to tell who's closer to the truth.

Well, I've only done a little research but did find numerous NHTSA documents stating it's illegal to modify headlights to use a bulb that the reflector and lens weren't designed to use. So it might present insurance or legal issues in the event of an accident where lighting played a role.
I don't have any interest in HID's so haven't really dug deep. I was merely presenting it as another opinion for those considering the conversion.

Using HIDS in a non HID housing (aka Discovery housing) is not only illegal but very dangerous and annoying to other drivers on the road which is multiplies by the fact the it is an SUV and the head lamps are at windshield level to most cars. That link posted is not a crock of shit but rather makes a very good argument as to why it shouldnt be done for use on a public road.
The biggest problem with using a non HID housing is a lack of cut off line that is built into the bulb housing. Like the article states since our disco were never intended to run HIDS there fore we do not have one as a traditional style bulb or even a halogen style bulb dont require it to be in place. Again like the article explains everything.
You can however do a proper retrofit which consist of basically cutting all the guts out of your stock housing and replacing them with parts out of a car that was equipped from the factory with HIDS.
When ever this issue come up goes back to the old saying, A picture is worth a thousand words. I challenge the original post to post up a picture of his car parked on level ground 20 feet away from a wall in which his headlights are shining directly at. I will almost guarantee that he doesnt have any kind of cut off line with glare spraying out every where.
For reference here is a pic of what a proper retro fit with cut off line should look like. Notice how in both pics absolutly no light is shined above where a normal cars wind shield would be.
Here a proper retro fit on mounted on a car.
In conclusion non retrofit HIDS are dangerous to the public and ricer!
