Default I think I found one...

I found a nice 2000 Range with 67k miles for around 11k. I haven't made an offer yet, I wanted to get a little info from your guys first. First off. It needs a new windshield. What am I looking at cost wise? Second, I am curious how the transfer case works. When you shift over to the right side it turns the idiot light on that has the 2 gears and I think a cross through it. What is that? When I shifted back to the left side it stayed there. I think I had to stick it in N for a second or so to get it to come off. Is it working correctly? What does that idiot light mean? Sorry, I had a 97 Disco and it worked a little differently.

Last question. Anyone know of any mechanics in the downtown LA area that I can take the Rover to to have a once over. I.E. compression check, suspension airbags, trans, etc....

Thank you very much, and if all goes well I should have a Range soon. This is where you say, "be careful what you wish for!"

The windshield could be reasonable, or not... If you have a heated windshield in that truck you could be looking at close to a grand including labor. The windshield in my 02' DII is heated, and I have had quotes of 6-800 just for the glass. If your windshield is not heated; you're looking at 4-500 to replace including labor.

The transfercase idiot light comes on when you have the tc engaged. When you put the shifter back over to the left side, you have to take the truck out of drive , so the computer resets the tranny functions to know the tc is no longer engaged. Don't know any better way to explain it.

Thank you. I will have to find out if the window is heated or not. I don't want to get stuck with 1k to repair it. Other than that, the exterior of this thing is pretty close to perfect. Interior is so so.

I am still looking for a Rover mechanic in the area. I live about 50 miles from where the car is so I am looking for someone close to the car which is in downtown Los Angeles.

Thanks again

You shift left to lock and right to unlock...that light comes on when you lock the t-case. They don't always go out when you unlock. In each of the Disco's I've owned, the light will sometimes stay on until I've done some driving in 4-high unlocked.
