Default i'm in England & thinking of bringing a few right hand drive Landy's to Canada/U.S...

..and i am wondering if anyone knows if there is a market for right hand drive Land Rovers in North America? I am thinking of bringing a few back with me to Canada if there is interest, Defenders or any other model. This is not any type of scam, if there is interest i will be buying them here and selling them in person, truck for cash, there.
thanks,
John

All depends on what you have and how much you want for it. If you have ex MOD Rovers 90 or 110 I may be interested. I'm in Alberta, Canada.

I was just talkin about how complex a RHD to LHD swap would be on one of those trucks and would consider going this route if the price is right

One quick question, how are you going to import the Rovers, with new titles (if ex MOD), so you can register the trucks, then sell them without upsetting the Tax man? As for the type of Rover; I'd like a LHD, ex MOD, Defender 90, canvas top, in best condition poss. Price Range ? I need to check into that further.

I'd be very interested to see pics of the trucks you are thinking of importing and if you can have all the red tape taken care of.

Don't forget:

has to be 15 years old to import into canada
has to be 25 years old to import into the US

hey guys, great to see all the interest. Random, give me a few days and i will have detailed answers to your questions for you. 101001010, I will be able to give you an idea of the additional costs over the initial cost of the truck after i do some more research in to the details of import/export. Ish, you tell me what you want and I will find and yes I'll deal with the red tape. To everyone and anyone who is interested tho', rmuller is right, import laws from Britain are, 15 yrs to Canada/25 to the U.S., from the MONTH of manufacture of the vehicle, not just the model year but the actual month it was made, so our time frame here is '92 models(of varying months)and ealier. U.S. residents can buy pre-owned cars in Canada and take them home with them, the laws for this may vary from state to state and I will find out more about this and post it as well. So yeah, great, thank you all for your interest and I will get you all some answers asap.

Ryan,
I imported my 2004 Disco from the US with very little trouble. There must be more details to sort out than just a blanket 'can't be imported'. I'm not sure what those details are, however.

Bringing a bunch of old LR's over from the UK
+ getting them registered
+ finding buyers
+ getting the money from them
= big headache

Are you planning on being the one checking them out? Will the potential buyer be relying on your word that the vehicle is sound? Will you be dealing with the red tape and logistics of getting it on the road in NA? I'm not sure I'd spend my money that way.

US residents can't buy 15-yr old imported cars from Canada and get them EPA/DOT approved here... I mean, there are tons of ways around this, some states are more relaxed then others, you can do vin swaps.. but for the federal DOT/EPA regulations, the truck must be 25+ years.

hey, good to see the interest, yes as I expected there are some details to work through of course. I am working with people here who export cars to Canada on a regular basis and I will get everyone answers to the questions as soon as I can.
thanks,
John
