Hello All,
I just wanted to take a minute and say hi to everyone on this forum. I am brand new to the forum. I have been searching for a place to go with questions to my Disco (besides the ever so financially gentle LR dealers). It seems I have found the place. I just want to start off by saying thank you. I have spent the last hour view the threads. Everyone bascially has a busy life and to see a group of individuals taking the time out of their day to assist "Rookie" mech as myself is a relief. To be honest it is actually a noble deed. Again thank you for your knowledge and time. |

I have owned a 98 LSE since 2000. I love the Disco. I justed started doing repairs myself(besides basic oil changes and air fliter replacements). I had an alternator problem and took it to a local import shop. They got a rebuilt one and fixed it for $700 including new serp. belt. 6 months later just past warranty it went bad. I decided to change it myself. Salvage yard sent me one for $90 and and installed it myself. It works great. I found gratification in doing it beyond the cost savings. I want to learn how to fix all the issues I can with it(and yes i have some issues with it). But I will not let it go quietly into the night. I will need a great deal of help to to do this but feel I am in the correct setting to become educated in the art of Disco's.
Fun thing I do not have any pictures of my Disco. |

Disco Truck, Welcome to the online Land Rover community! Other enthusiasts' consideration for new owners is the same thing that drove me to the site. I see you're in Jupiter Fl! There's a group of us going to JW Corbette (in Jupiter) April 1st and you are welcome to come along!

Disco truck: welcome aboard. Permit me to suggest that you will benefit from a Haynes manual and a CarChip. The Haynes manual will have lots of 'holes' in its info (my version does not cover the newer Disco 1 models that have no distributor) but it does cover most of the obvious stuff reasonably well. The CarChip EX records 300 hours of vehicle data, allows you to turn off the "check engine" light and shows any codes the ECU might 'throw'. The only bad thing about the CarChip is that the program only works on the PC platform not with Macs!
One of the most annoying characteristics of any dealer service department is that they are not allowed to tell you about superior non-factory replacement parts. For example, we got rid of the aweful 'viscous fan coupling' and fan and replaced it with Flex-a-lite dual electric fans. We saved money and have a quieter fan. This forum will inform you better than the dealer will about many tricks, upgrades and improvements. Cheers and happy Discoing. |

01001010, Thanks for the invite. That is my daughters spring break and I will be tied up. I do not know JW Corbette, what is this? At some point I would like to meet with a rover group around here.
Pavel, the CarChip EX. You gave a breif description but where do I get one and how much do they cost? Is it a device I hook up to my disco? Take care. |

Welcome aboard Disco Truck! Corbett's a big nature preserve over your way. If you can't make it this time (your family is more than welcome too!) you'll have to join with us next time.

Disco truck; I got the CarChip EX from Davis Automotive online and paid $139 plus shipping if memory serves. It's a small unit, about twice the size of an old fashioned box of matches. It plugs into the Disco just above the gas pedal under the dash.
