So as you all MAY have noticed, I haven't been around in a while or as much. Back in May I got word that one of my cousins in Panama was not doing very well. He became very ill. My immidiate family, and I have been doing what we can from here ($$$$) and I was already making preparations to leave at the end of this month. At the beginning of the weekend my mom rcvd word that he is now recovering and should be back to 100% soon. I didnt get the whole break down because the details have been shady but its some sort of Virus that's going around down there. I will make sure to post everything here and on ExPo because I do know of several people from the forums headed down there before the year is over.
Then early this month I painfully found out I have a kidney stone. I had to be rushed from work to the ER because I was in so much pain, I guess my muscles released some chemicals or w/e and my body completely cramped up. It was horrid. A CatScan helped show that it is a 3mm stone. It is now in my lower kidney and I HOPE to have this thing out soon. I've drank more water in the last three weeks than I have in the last year (most likely the reason why I have a stone) Since I sold my truck to another enthusiast, I was left LandRoverless..and you all know that can't be! Sooooo... I purchased another Rover!!!!! 1965 SIIa 88" ![]() Although I do want a Series. I've got mixed feelings. I REEEAALLLY want a Defender so I can hit the trails on the weekends but at the same time I want something REEEEAAALLLY simple to work on. I think what I'll do is work on the series, keep it, and when the term on the Mini is up, trade IT for a Defender since Minis keep their value pretty high...SPECIALLY these days! So we'll see what happens! I hope to visit the site as frequently as I used to and get back into the jist of things.

Nothing wrong with off-roading in an 88. I started doing in in '74. Still like off-roading in series rovers.

JC;
Glad to hear your cousin is doing better. But sorry to hear about your kidney stone. My father has them often, and I always wonder if I'll get that someday in the genetics. He almost died twice over the years from kidney stones. So drink, and have a spectro analysis done on the bugger when you pass it. It helps to tell you how to change your diet to lessen the chances of more down the road. Good to hear you found another rover, now get back with TT, and make your dreams come true. Take it easy. ![]()

Knock on Formica JC, but I haven't had a kidney stone in 12 years, but after five of them I can attest there is no pain so excruciating. I used to argue with my wife that it had to be worse than giving birth, and of coarse she would insist I was wrong, until she had 2 at the same time. It was many years after we had divorced, and probably the only thing I recall her agreeing with me on.
With me it was the regular popping of TUMS that was causing so much calcium. Since I no longer take any antacids, I have never had the problem. The docs told me to drink plenty of cranberry juice, so, naturally, Cape Codders became my drink of preference. Now they tell me not to drink it, so good old ales and singlemalts to ease whatever ails me now. Congratualtions of the 88, You'll have a ball with it. It's a very capable trail truck. Post some pics soon Glad to hear things are going well with your cousin. I know some of the Latin American bugs can be deadly. |

actually stick to a discovery one, no need to waste money on buying a defender that is overpriced. The parts are still the same even on the 07s and 08s minus the engines and transmissions.
So all the seals that go on the vehicle and brakes are alot cheaper since they are still be manufactured.

You know I actually have been thinkin about that... But its hard to come across a well maintained, well cared for D1. Not to mention I think this time I want to go Soft Top. After owning one series, I really did enjoy how easy it was to work on, so i figure Defenders are just a little more complicated than series trucks but still easier to work on than the rest of the models...i think
Since I'm only looking for a weekend vehicle, Im looking out for Defenders that are either a little crispy or need SOME work...then maybe throw a brazilian 2.8 in there. At the moment, the Defender is Plan B... Im stickin to the Series until im acutally able to drive it on/off road and really make up my mind.

When you're ready for a defender; you've got my number. My mechanic at the dealer that buys and sells them always has about half a dozen. 2 or 3 in the 15-17 range, that are ready for off-road rigs, nothing pretty to look at, but mechanically sound, and everything redone and sealed by a LR master tech. And he usually has one really rough example in the 12K range.
