If you havent seen the pictures of the competition then by all means take a look. And ask yourself do you think Jeep or anyone else would take a 95k dollar vehicle and put it on a raft on a lake. not to mention take it offroad. This is a cool competition. Americans arent allowed but perhaps in the future. |

Wheeling. Now it seems the majority of it is canoeing, swimming, biking, running, frisbee, aligator wrestling, fire walking, tree climbing, kyaking, and every other human sport known to man but what,,,,about,,,,,the,,,,WHEELING? I guess if you are on a stock rig with plastic body molding and a winch sticking a foot out the front about 10" off the ground you want to emphasize the biking over the wheeling,,, ,,, ,,, I would rather watch Outback Challenge. Those guys are serious. |

I'm afraid the website is a little out-of-date and the 'fifth vehicle yet to be announced' is the Range Rover Sport (which brings Land Rover's model line-up to five- Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, RRS).
Still- I totally agree with the fact that it's good to see Land Rover has the confidence in their vehicles to put them through 2 months of torture without any mechanical changes and only brochure-listed accesories. I still think the Camel Trophy was much better, but they couldn't get away with that now (4x4s plunging through the Amazonian jungle, chopping down trees to make bridges, whilst sponsored by a tobacco company- I don't think so). I watched the 2003 G4 Challenge (despite it being on very late at night), and the 4x4 content was tiny. They really just used the Land Rovers to get from activity to the other. This year's should be better- South America and SE Asia both produced excellent Camel Trophies (the Borneo one managed something like 2 miles per day it was so tough), and they say that they have made the 4x4 driving more central to the activities and the scoring system.
