Default Land Rover war of words

Now don't get me wrong, I love Land Rovers – and have just noticed there’s a debate going in the Farmers Weekly magazine about whether they’re any good.

One guy’s claiming they’re overrated. He moans about everything from awful handling and under-powered engines to rubbish radios and comedy handbrakes!

It’s worth a read, only if to see how misguided some people are! You can read it on their website

Typical Volvo driver. I bet he inherited it from his dad, hat and all.

Never trust a person who needs to exaggerate a point, in order to make a point...!

hahaha.. well being an owner of a few defenders, I gotta agree with some of his points. LOL
Ok he may have been exaggerating a tad in some points, but while some may seem far fetched to you, he's not completely off-base there.

I thought it was a hilarious read and not far from the truth in a lot of his points.

Loving a Rover is like Loving a Woman! Sometimes she will piss you off or try to kill you but you love her all the same.

Well ive never had a defender but i can say the discovery dosent have any of the problems he talked about but the electrical stuff he was talking about. my rear wiper works when it feels like it, i dont like that fast that when ever i need to load something into the back im parked so the door opens into the curb, i dont even try to figure out my cruse control any more. But other then that i cant complain. 200,000 miles and not a problem yet *knock on wood* (well but rust o well i live in the east happens to every car)

Very amusing, but being back in cold and wet England he may have a point (or two)

This guy has had some bad experiences. What the hell is a Land Rover 108?? No such thing exists. Snapped cam.....sounds more like driver abuse rather than a fault. I have owned many defenders and have been quite lucky not to share some of the difficulties this guy has had. There are definately some "home truths" to be said though.Nothing is more scary than driving down the highway at 60 mph and having the passenger door pop open. That does however help drain the rainwater out of the footwells....

Yeah, and who was the brilliant Limey engineer who decided the best place to put the fuel filter was in the rear wheel arch, where the stainless filter, plumbed with carbon steel fittings, was thoroughly exposed to road spray and debris?
