Just like to know are they needed When I get a rover it will be a trail rig. I was on www.discoweb.org and saw some awesome pictures of some discoveries and Defenders and a couple of range rover doing it. Are lockers absolutely needed or is the Center Differential lock with ABS pretty damn good. Also in a month I will be looking for a 96-97 Discovery SD no sunroof/power seats. I like everything mechanical easier to fix.
Thanks Everyone. |

Never done the rubicon but i'd say they are not necessary and doing it without just makes it more interesting anyhow!!

I havent done the entire rubicon, but ive talked to others that have. It all depends on what routes you take......there are easier ones and there are near-impossible ones. If a stock yota FJcruiser can make it through then you can too; albiet, it has a rear locker, I think you'll be fine just giving it some gas with the TC and using your CDL.

Rocks are not my forté so only looking at this from personal experience.
Personally I do not have too much faith in the TC system, it has let me down a couple of times (three lights syndrome), absolute minimum would be a rear locker and /or CDL preferably both

If you want to run the Rubicon, you should have CDL and at least a rear locker, two lockers will give you alot more ability and ease. Stock axles are OK as long as you don't run a rear Detroit or ARB.
It is safe to say that the greaater % of people running most of the trails are locked up. Mike |

Mind you having seen many photos of this trail on several websites, replacing half shafts is not unusual
