Default Lower Gas Mileage

Recently my gas mileage has dropped from 14.5 to 12.5 mpg. I thought it odd but stranger things have happened...well, I digress.

So I'm filling up at the 7-Eleven last night. I had just a few miles earlier hit the red Light says your just about out of gas, better stop soon, part of my gauge. So I'm watching the pump and it stops at 18.5 gallons. I thought that was weird cause normally it would take 21 gallons to fill. I also notice the pump reads $50.00. I thought it was odd that the last time I filled up the amount was $50.00.

So it dawns on me that they are only allowing 50$ purchases. In a sort of rationing, that’s all you get. So I go in and ask the lady and she says, "yeah the pumps stop at 50$. But you can scan your card again and keep filling if need too."

Good grief. Rationing. I haven't seen rationing since the oil embargo of 1973.

I did the same thing yesterday. It was the 7-11 on 24th and Alameda. I wonder if it is store specific or a new 7-11 policy.

It's been like that for a year here in So Cal, but only at regular gas stations.

If you go to Costco gas station it will fill the tank. Past 50 bucks if need be.

Sorry to go off topic a little but I take it you have a v8 in your landy? If you do I thought you should be getting nearly 20mpg out of it? My 2.5 Petrol does about 14mpg and they are always known to do far less than v8s. Most V8s return between 16-18mpg as far as I know.

87 Octane.
14.5-15.5 mpg overall. Meaning on a tank of gas with highway and city miles.
I've been told by a few that mine is good comparitively speaking.

geez, i wish i had that kind of gas milage, i get a mere 8 or 9 mpg, 11 at the most of level land. I goto school up in the mountains, so driving up to elevations of 3500 above sea level kills the milage. When I'm in charlotte(piedmont, flat ground) i get aroudn 10-11 ish. I do have a header leak, would that contribute to the poor milage? Also, stations in charlotte have been limiting gas consumption to $50 for a while now, maybe a few years i think.

I don't know about the leak and gas mileage.
My previous 4.2 with the leak got 16.5 overall. So who knows?!?!

Around 15 seems to be the average for most 3.9 and 4.2 Rover V8's. I get about 15-16 mpg (89 octane) with my 3.9 with 196k miles on it. When it was new it'd do about 17-18.

The $50 problem has been here in Colorado for about 2 years........ As fas as gas mileage depends what i do... highway 17 - (have recorded 23 four times) in the city 12 - 15 m.p.g.......I run 91 octane, premium here in Colorado...... When i go play i the mountains (10,000 ft +) I drop down to somewhere around 10 m.p.g.

Thats what I thought as well. My owners manual however says 91 or 93 octane. I found one Citgo that sells 91. On two ocassions I have mixed 1/2 tank 87 octane and half tank 93. It ran ok. Not sure what I am putting at risk. However every three tank full I pour seafoam in my tank as added protection.
APPSTATEDISCO : Try the seafoam (from NAPA). There is one you pour in your tank and one that you put in your engine via the vacuum hose. That should help your milage providing the other components such as air filter are clean. (there is a thread on that).

BIRD over there on the Big Island : Did you say you are using str8 87 octane in your 2002 Disco? How long have you being doing this? How is it currently running?

Wow, I cant believe you guys are getting that great mileage out of discoII's with 87. Ive been averaging 13.5mpg for a while now, and thats with 91-octane! Though I do live in the mountains at 5k-8k ft, and there is not much flat ground, either going down a hill or up one.

btw, havent seen a 50$ or for that matter, any limit on gas here. I have been to 7-elevens within the past month and some other places. I usually get gas at costco or sams club though; its the cheapest in town.
