Smile New Off Road Center in Ontario-maybe

Hello,

I have an opportunity to develop some hilly, wet and treed land into an off-road park in Ontario about 1 hour from Toronto.

I was hoping the people within range could let me know if they would have an interest in using such a place and if anyone interested could let us know what they would like to see in it.

My thoughts so far are for 3 levels, non-damaging (passable in a stock vehicle with good tires but utilizing slopes and mud-family fun), intermediate needing decent tires and maybe a bit more tolerance for the occasional pin stripe and extreme for those who like to “fix what they broke” and a chance to use the winch, snorkel, etc. We will also have some man made obstacles such as see-saws and parallel rails.

We would like to offer competition weekends to all makes of good 4x4’s and Jeeps where we can host events similar to the Bulldog in the UK.

The center would supply the usual things such as maps of the terrain, portable CB radio’s for safety for those who don’t have the redneck internet fitted and a place for getting changed/ warmed up/ refreshments, etc as well as a small workshop if you need straighten things out for the ride home.

The land lends itself to some steep inclines/ descents as well as some great wading area’s and here is where I would like your input- What would you like to see in an off-road center?

Hopefully we can raise enough interest to make the center a worth while project as give us somewhere to use our machines year round.

Are you permitted to specify where?

Sounds like an interesting idea, how far along in the process are you?

Not to far from the Airport. We have the insurance and zoning figured out and could possibly be up and running by Spring...but only if the interest is there.

Have you spoken with anyone at the OF4WD about it yet? Lots of contacts with different clubs and organizations there.

I haven't really spoken to anybody except the LR Dealers. It's something that I used to play at in the UK and I think it's something that is missing in Ontario. I was trying to see the viability first with the few people from the area on this forum and also what you would like to see in it. As it's a "greenfield" operation, we have the scope to design something we all want to use within reason.
I'm of the old adage "build it and they will come" failing that, I'll have the best kick ass place to walk my dog

I think you'll definitely get a crowd if you keep the prices reasonable.. The offroad parks near New Jersey (Rausch Creek and old Paragon) always had a huge crowd, they charge I believe $35USD/day ... but you have to remember, there are no real legal places to play around here either.

You should definately contact Peter Wood from OF4WD . We just had a discusion about something similar a few weeks ago . ( Caledonia area business wants to do the same thing ) They aproached me asking for a letter of recomendation and i passed the info on to Pete . I can tell you now that there would be a definate interest in this for a great many clubs in the GTA area . Let me know if this is a real possibility and i can certainlly get a lot of interest in your site if you would like.
Cheers.

It's a big possibility- we are working hard on getting it going. We are hoping to be ready by March 31st...As we get a little closer, we will invite you up to take a look.

Yeah, Planning is taking a long time as they do not like the idea of noise even though we are about 3km from a residence_
