Didn't the diesel engines make it over to Canada? Thought they did!
As has been said before the nice thing about the D1 is that it is so vey very simple to work on. I don't have a disco by the way, have a D90 over here in Wales, but the mechanics is pretty similar (apart from the obvious body work differences). You may like to talk to these guys, they may be able to help http://www.landrovercentre.com/usa/welcome.htm

I went 95 D-1. Easy to work on and Mod. I would list all the mods but don't feel like writing it all down. I'm an ARB fan too. Love their lockers.

I been shopping about in England. Cost effectively, its better to buy a gas model here.
But the diesel is just......well, a diesel. I'd much rather have one than a gas model. I've also been tempted by a Defender, but its not really to my taste. Im a disco guy for sure. Out of a friends curiosity, anyone here riding on 35's or bigger? What did you have to do? |

Update:
Took a trip down to the dealer and they have a couple S1's for sale. They have a really clean 99' with 156,000kms on it, and a not so clean 98' with only 90,000kms. The 98 is a 50th Anniversary. Its less than stellar condition, but if the dealer cleans it up the way I want, I might just pick it up. I dont really know what else to say except Im playing the waiting game right now, but my chance to own a Disco is imminent. Im also going to Import one in the spring as well, where this domestic version will be surrendered to the wife. Unless I decide (or she decides) to keep the Jeep and I'll probably just buy one of those two anyways. ![]() |

I took mine to Land rover of Rocklin (in CA) The mechanics told me that the '98 model was the best year due to the fact there wasn't a rush in production due to the DII they were starting to produce so they were put together a little better. Get the DI as first choice or the DII as second choice. They are the last "real" Land Rovers you can get.

Well, after much researching and discussing (Comprimising) with the wife, we have settled on getting a rover as more of a all-around car with option for some wheelin on the weekends.
So today we picked up a 2002 Discovery Series 2 SE. The wife loves the more modern interior and I love the way it handles on the road. I'll probably use this one rarely for off-road, as its a fabulous looking truck. Im very pleased with it. Unfourtunately, its without a CDL. This will be rectified sometime in the future, maybe in a few years. Mods will be simple stuff. Lamp Guards, Skid plates, running boards. Just a little at a time. ![]() Thanks for all your help guys. I started looking for an off-road car, instead I bought something that does everything spectacularily. |

See the problem with mods is two things.
The wife parks in a parkade with a height limit of about 6'6" AND shes already disapproved the bull bar, which I dont like myself because I accually saw one and its HUGE. So my plan right now is some shoes (tires, BFG AT's of course) and some lamp guards, side steps and a hidden winch up front. Hidden from the wifes eye view. Next year when we buy another new/used car (just waiting on prices to lower some), then its all out. |
