Please help me decide.....

I own a 1998 Range Rover 4.6HSE. I have owned it since new, and I have taken great care of it. It is British Racing Green with Lightstone Interior. It is in incredible condition. Recently converted suspension to coils and springs.
Looking at a 2004 Disco HSE, silver and lightstone with almost no miles.
I can't decide whether to hold on to my Range Rover - it has 112,500 miles...or buy the newer one and have warranty etc. Please give me your opinions

Try to get hold of it for at least a full day or over a weekend.
You might regret giving up the vast amount of room in the Range Rover.
Try getting in and out of the back seats -its better suited to kids being so small.

Well, the good thing about the Rangie is that it's paid for. Your costs at this point are just maintenance, insurance and gas. Sure, with a newer vehicle you have the "comfort" of a warranty, but you have to spend how much each month? And, what are they going to give you on your trade? Not much for a vehicle with 112k on the clock, and you can rest assured that if they give you 6 grand for it, they'll sell it for 12.
I'd say stick with what works, it's the financially sensible thing to do. But I *do* know that driving the same vehicle around for 7 or 8 years can get a little boring...

That's the thing. I am not tired of it yet. Other than the suspension it is running great right now. Yes the new Disco is fairly expensive, but I have a private party that will give me 13,000 for the range rover, and I know that opportunity won't come along again.

The rover is nice. The spring coils ride a little harsher than the eas (did the new bilsteins also)

I am not tired of the range rover, but i am cocncerned that it will start giving me problems while my 13,000 buyer goes away...and then I really am down to a 6000 - 8500 resale value

Part of the reason for the high resale now is the buyer knows me and knows how fastidious I am about taking care of it. An independant shop who takes care of a lot of rover product did the conversion ( always used dealer until then), and he said it is the best condition rover he has ever worked on - including an 01 and 02 he maintains.

So, with all that in the equation......13,000 buyer, etc. Still sell?

Man - If you can $13K for the RR I would go for it, that will reduce your payments. You just need to be sure you know what you are giving up! Not only the room and ride but a vehicle you love and know!

Like someone above said - get it for a weekend and "FEEL" the difference.

In life, sometimes we must compromise. I think a fair compromise is to keep the Rangie and get the Disco. How to rationalize this:

1) The 04 Disco will become a collectors item one day, being the last year of production and all, and the RR is already (or will soon be) a collectors item;

2) The 04 Disco is likely priced about 10-13 below sticker, so buying the Disco slightly used and keeping the Rangie is like having sold the Rangie for 13k and having bought the Disco at full sticker a year ago;

3) You need the extra room of the RR while also needing the edge in reliability a nearly new vehicle gives you;

4) #3 above could also be a justification for selling the RR and getting a new RR.

See, compromise is great!

If I were you I will try to keep the RR and buy myself a pre-owneed '03-'04 Disco with remaining warranty,think about it,it will be a Disco with warranty,and cheaper!
