My husband and I are considering buying our first Land Rover, but we're not sure if the vehicle we're looking at is a 'good deal'.
It's a 1995 Range Rover, with 170,000 kms (we're in Canada). The body seems to be in great shape - asking price is $6,000 (Canadian). We've taken it to a mechanic for an inspection, and were told the following: - stabilizer bar is bent/crushed - has 'quite a few' transmission leaks - gas tank is not aligned with fill hole (when you go to gas truck, you have to move the tank with your fingers to fuel up) - needs new shocks, roters (sp?) and brakes - some electrical (2 windows need new motors), a couple of power door locks don't work We would not be using the truck for off-roading, rather a lot of driving on a highway (we live on a small acreage outside of Calgary, so drive 30 min to city each way) with our 2 kids. We need a safe, reliable family vehicle, and like the size, look and features of Range Rovers. We don't have a lot of money, but my husband is very hands-on and would become our trial-by-fire mechanic. Here's a photo of the truck: http://www.parkitandsellit.com/vdb/v...p?id=000002468 Any advice? Is this a good price? Should we be buying a Land Rover? If yes, is a Range Rover or a Discovery more practicle for us? Are the above problems/issues ones that we could repair on our own? Thanks in advance for any help - much appreciated. |
