Exclamation Registration and Insurance

What do you guys pay for yours?

Cause' for some reason, I dunno if this is legit or not, but I pay $210 for registration, and am not sure what the exact price for my insurance is, but I was told it is high.

Registration is friggen' baffling me. Now, in Michigan the registration has once been based on vehicle weight, then transferred to vehicle style, now it has gone back to weight. Now my LWB weighs in the vicinity of 4800 lbs. "curb weight" that is. If that is the case, it could be understandable why registration is, what it is. Now, On the other hand my mom's Mercedes 420 SEL, she pays about the same amount, which is rediculous, and hers is 9 years older than mine! Now if it is based on weight, why is hers the same rate as mine? The two vehicles don't even weight anywhere near the same amount. So what gives?

What are some of your rates, and what is your rates for insurance & who the service is?

In NJ I pay $86/yr for registration.... for my Wrangler its around $45.

Full insurance on my 2001 D2 is around $1200/yr now... when I first got it (I was 23), it was $5400/yr which is extremely high... after turning 25 and the 1 ticket i had expired, it went wayy down... I had Prudential, now I have Allstate.

Huh, cause I may have been pulled over twice for traffic related things, one was in my Ford Probe for having the underbody lights on. Cop was nice to give me just a warning. And just recently I was pulled over for having a headlight out (story to tell another) and he just gave me a cheap peice of paper about "making Ohio state roads safer" and so nothing was done there. Other than that, I don't see why insurance would be high for me. Is it still cause I am 19 years old? Still a nasty driving teen?

Yeah, the under 25 thing is big... as for tickets, only certain ones carry insurance points.. speeding tickets, DUIs, unsafe driving, etc.. the two you got won't affect your insurance.

Under 25 and Male is definitely a factor.. I believe you can get discounts by taking some driving classes, also I think higher grades help lower insurance actually. You should talk to your insurance company and see what discounts they offer.

I would be willing to take some sort of driving course, by far I would. It would be something to do, and might help. Plus I would be more than happy to show them my college transcript. I will look into this.

In West Virginia you have to pay annual property taxes on your vehicle to get the registration. I don't recall the tax on my truck, but it aint much. Since I have the title for my truck I only have to carry liability insurance, which is $50 a month through State Farm.

Insurance in VT is higher than when I lived right outside D.C. which is strange. I guess because half the year in VT it's bumper-cars in snow.

Registration here is strange and expensive. They charge a retroactive sales tax, even if you owned a vehicle before moving here. Seems illegal to me.

I have a horrendous driving record. Numerous loss of license(all street race related, long before Fast and furious), numerous disorderly with a motorized vehicle, evading and eluding..

Anyhow, I have been good for nearly years, but still have SR22.

Insurance for my wife and I with liability coverage on the '94 Disco, and full coverage on our '95 Mercury Villager, all high liability limits and $200 ded. is $90/month.

Registration is $55/yr per vehicle.

I love WI for insurance, but property tax here is REDICULOUS!!

Just to do an international comparison

My 1993 Range Rover

Western Australia registration is $565 per year, can pay 6 monthly which l do, no cheaper just easier on budget, covers you for your complusory third party personal injury insurance.

Private motor vehicle comprehensive insurance that's another story had my renewal note sent to me yesterday for $789 for 12 months for car valued at $11,000.

This morning did internet search and got quotes for same vehicle, driving record ranging from $365 to $980 for full comprehensive insurance and $260 for third party proeprty damage fire and theft.

My driving record for 49 year old male with no claimable accidents in last 20 year plus of driving with a license held for 31 years with no demerit points on license

Up here in Calgary I pay $65.00 a year for plates/registration, and $95.00 a month for Personal Liability, Property Damage (PL/PD), full comprehensive (glass/fire/theft/vandalism), and full collision insurance. Comprehensive $1000.00 deductable, collision $500.00 deductable.

What is weird is that I removed my 2003 Ford Exploder from my insurance and then added my 2007 RR Sport. The insurance went up $5.00 a month, registration stayed the same.

2003 Ford Exploder = $20,000.00
2007 Range Rover Sport = $95,000.00
insurance company logic = priceless.....

I have:

'99 DII (Full coverage)
'98 DI (Full coverage)
'90 ford tempo (Liability only)

I pay about $160/mo.

My Insurance co. considers the rovers to be "Utility trucks" Not SUVs. Henseforth, I get better rates.
