stereo code not working in TD5 2000

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone else with a 2000 TD5 has had trouble getting the stereo code to work? I had a transmission leak fixed and i guess they disconnected the battery. Anyway, I've tried putting in the code that is written on the card (i am not the original owner). ANyway, it doesn't work. I've tried it tonnes of times, slow and fast, but no luck. i then decided to fiddle and put in 1111. the radio came on for a few minutes, then turned off and asked for the code again. really frustrating!! i want some tunes while driving.
would appreciate anyone's help... will make me a happy driver again to have music!
