ok. . . . so I've had my RR for two weeks now, and when I purchased it I received only one key (with the security remote fob). I've been reading everything I can find in here about additional keys...with and without a fob, and am now even more in the dark about it all. I called a locksmith today and asked about having a couple of spare keys made. He advised me that my RR would not deactivate the security system unless it was a key specifically from the dealer because of some electronic device within the key. I thought that was what the FOB was all about. I just want a spare key in case I forget this one somewhere or sometime.
Some keys have chips in them, without that chip your alarm won't disengage. Better call your dealer and see if you can just cut a blank key or if you need to order one from them, no confusion there.

just got off the phone with a Land Rover dealership parts supervisor. He says: yes you can get a basic key cut for around $45, however, after several uses it will put the vehicle security system into superlock. So. . . buying the security key FOB system is the practical solution. price for that. . . . . $275 yeah. . .. $275 I'm glad I was sitting down.
there has got to be a better alternative.
I have a 01 Disco II SE that I bought a couple weeks ago that is wrecked. It came with one key/fob which that works to unlock/lock the doors. Is the key programmed for the vehicle like the new Fords are with a chip in it? I called the dealer this last week and told them my dilemma, and that I thought that I needed a key programmed for it, they told me to bring it in. So I did and when I got there they told me that the key is not programmed for it, so that isn't the problem. They charged me $117 to tell me that my fuel pump is bad. Tonight I figured out that it isn't bad, it just wasn't getting any power, and they motor isn't sparking. Any ideas what it could actually be?

They say they have replacements for 90+% of the vehicals, didn't look too hard at it...ebay is another resource. No blanks on there today, but you can get the Fob part and have a key made, then take that fob to the dealership for programming or there is some instructions floating around on self programming.
If it's just for back up go the cheap and easy route and hope you never have to use it more than once to get in and get home.
