I am thinking of trading up my 04 Disco for a JEEP unlimited with a full off road package. The dealership will give me me a gook 20K for my Disco. Does this sound like a great deal or what? Or I was thinking of a Ford escape hydrid. Does that sound like an even better deal?

Who do you think you are? Remmington?
As much as I don't care for J##ps, those Rubicons are badass right out of the box. Wish LR would do something like that. Take a D3 (aka LR3)(prefer a D90 but it would be too expensive) and updo the suspension and gearing in it - lockers, 4.11, 3" lift, granny gears in low - right out of the box. That would be a badass rover.

Didn't I read something about them putting out the "Tomb Raider" Defender at some point....

I am guilty of looking in that direction....The rubi is truly badass, but very small. In '07 jeep is supposed to release a 4 door wrangler with the split rear access, keeping the spare in the rear, and maintaining the wrangler driveline...all on a 110" wheelbased chassis. When they released the Rubi Unlimited, I was having some very evil thoughts...even looked at them at the autoshow......but didn't commit. Just couldn't completely stray to the dark side.
Sometimes I wonder if the marketing people at Jeep are reading the LR forums and targeting the no-longer-existant Discovery market..... ![]()

SCSL, I got you good! I was sitting on my but all day at work. And I just wanted start a tread to see what kind of reaction I would get. At least you did not beat me down like Reminton on other threads. The best part of this thread is that no sheep where hurt or humiliated. The things I do when I am not working hard!

I thought Lucas was the darkside? Hell, if I were a j##p guy, that's what I would do. ![]()

Yeah, like the other folks here, I gotta admit that the Rubi Unlimited has caught my eye. However, having had a 98 TJ not that many years ago, I know I'd still prefer my DI. The Heeps have plenty of available accessories and such, but they just don't feel solid when you drive them off-road. Maybe some people like all that flexing and twisting though...
Bird, the joke might have been slightly more believable if it had been a pre-04 DII w/o the CDL and 4.6!! Hard combo to beat...

I knew he was lying when he brought up the ford escape hybrid. My friends dad bought the new Unlimited Sahara edition and it was pretty sweet looking. But I wouldnt want to be locked in that thing on a long drive. My Series II is way more comfy. ![]() |

i heard about that potential '07 J**p release, too. Sounds very enticing since my wife and I are looking something to replace her D1. i've owned a '97 TJ and it was an excellent vehicle, though i agree that they just don't have the same sturdy feel as an LR.
since the D90 isn't going anywhere, i wouldn't be shifting completely to the dark side. however, isn't owning an LR and a J**p like rooting for the Giants AND the A's or having the hots for Wonder Woman AND the Bionic Woman? (Lynda Carter definitely had it over Lindsey Wagner) |
