Default Windshield Leak?!?!

Hey Guys!

I have a 2004 D2.

When it rains/ I wash my car.

Water leaks into the cabin.

The water is coming from the top center (Above Rear View Mirror) of the windshield.

I felt the space between the windshield and headliner.
I feel a piece along the entire top.
But the area just under the review mirror where it's attached to the roof.
Feels empty.

Not sure if that is right?
Do you think it's the seal outside?
Cause you can lift the top of it up.
Not sealed very good.

Same with the lower seal too.
I think my windshield wiper harness is corroded from a water leak there also.

Should I try to redo the outside seal?
Maybe add a new seal in the inside?

Is this a diy fix?

Thanks

Its hard to say . Water is funny . It could be making on area wet but, be coming the car and trveling along a valley or seem no where close to where u see the leak. If you can I would pull the headliner down and have some one soak the car with a garden hose while you search for the the water is getting inside the car. When I work in the dealerships starting out as a mechanic I would take the whole interior out of a car when it had a water leak and put it under the shower while is sat in it with a flash light . Thats usually the easiest way to find it . If it is the whinsheild it gonna have to be re-sealed by a professional window installer

I agree with Jersey Rover!

Dont take any short cuts, Remove the Entire Headliner Board and water test the roof to locate the leak. Anything less than pulling the headliner Board is a waist of your time.

If you can not see the water leak with your own eyes its based on assumptions - Resolve your water issues using only facts - This will save you time & Money in the long run.

Typical Sunroof leaks on a discovery vary, I personally have never seen a bad Sunroof Seal between the Glass & The plastic Trim Ring. Most Leaks come from either a Bad Seal on the Front Windshield or a Outer Trim Ring warped with age that wont allow the Sunroof Glass to lay flush with the seal.

Go back to the websites search engine and type in Sunroof: Their you will find years of postings on this very subject with detailed instructions on how to resolve this problem.

Let me know if i can help in any way. Bill

I know this post is old and you've probably found a solution by now, however, I just located my leak and it is indeed from where the a-post and the roof line are welded together. The only way I found it was by pulling away the weather strip around the door. It looks like the previous owner attempted to fix it with jb weld and failed. So, now i've located it, any ideas how to stop it?

I would recommend If you can locate a (local Body Shop Supplier) Not a Body Shop! go to their store and tell the guys at the service counter what your dealing with and they will direct you to a product they sell to body shops to resolve your problem.

The Body Shop Suppliers Service desk Guys really know their Products and will answer any question you may have.

Heres a link in your area of 3 places to start.

Fredericksburg.com - Automobile Body Shop Equipment & Supplies in the Fredericksburg VA Area

Hope this helps in some way. Bill

Bill, you must have a bell on your computer that tells you a headliner issue is posted. You are all over these questions. Good job, thank you for the input!

Bill is a very squared away guy, knows his stuff and is always there to help with a answer. If I was in Florida he'd be doing my headliner work.
