Post help for v8

i have a problem with our 3.5 v8 . it was originally a RRC and a very old classic at that . the problem is this i/we have'nt got a clue about v8's we know 4cyl and diesels . we cant get it to run , but when it does it backfires through the carbs . it ran for about 5 mins max it will move ok in low box but in high it is like starting off in 3rd . anybody who can help PLEASE send any tech tips/drawings to help with setting up the ignition/spark leads , which wires connect to where on the coil and the loom(it had been rewired with all blue wire) . plus any other help however small will be the biggest help of all .photos pictures links anything PLEASE
