Thanks Paul! I saw the photo of your batteries but I thought that was under the seat!! Neat job there. Thankfully Ive already got ARBs in the RRC so I will be good on that front. I appreciate the photos of the rear section. Im going to examine my crossmember a bit better and see if I can salvage it. I was just thinking it might be easier with a D90 with extensions since they mount higher up than a series... Talk to you soon and thanks for all the advice. Gordo

Hi Gordo,

Anything I can do, no problem.

I'm guessing that the D90 rear crossmember could be the same width as the RR frame, but will the overall width be wider than the Series?

Any way, enough for now.

I'll be watching your progress!

Thanks,

Paul

I made a few measurements:

Length = 132" not including the hooks on the front or the hitch on rear, or about 10" shorter than the SIIA was, and 31" shorter than a D90.

Height = 79"

Weight from town scale = 3400. lb

Thanks Paul, just curious did you shorten the rear tub at all? I plan on doing a 90 inch wheelbase, ie cutting around 10" out of the frame, to center the tires in the wheel well as my RRC has a 3 inch lift with stock radius/trailing arms. I cant shorten mine as I need room for the two boys back there!

Hi Gordo,

I did not shorten the tub. The only body part I shortened was the rear of the front wings. The radiator placement dictated where everything else is.

If your D90 hood gives another 6-10inches more room then everything can go further back and you can have the wheels line up with the body. Everything should be less work. If you remember could you let me know how long the D90 hood is?

Using the Series front end I couldn't make this any longer. The rear wheels would have been even with the rear crossmember, as it is now the rear of the rear wheels are 6 inches from the rear of the crossmember. I think I said before that an 80 inch wb would have fit without cutting the rear of the wheel wells much at all.

Beautiful isn't it?

Thanks,

Paul

Hey Paul that is one cool photo right there!! I love it. You sure did have a lot of creative ideas building that hybrid. I dont have the D90 hood yet but it is in a container with a bunch of other stuff coming from the UK as we speak. I basically comes out flush to the front of the wings. I have that and a D90 front grill/support so the front will resemble a D90. Not exactly what I wanted but it makes room for everything to fit in there without moving the motor back. I finally got the old frame out of the shop and started working on the rear tub. Just going to clean it up and get it primered and then work on getting the frame RRC in the shop. thanks again. Gordo

I'm adding a few photos of the latest addition of a roof rack to my 84" Hybrid. I made the rack out of material available at Home Depot, total cost about $100.

Paul; you really need to check out SNHLR - Southern New Hampshire Land Rovers . That truck needs to be seen by some fellow LR enthusiasts. Beautiful job by the way. I am in the process of a hybrid project, after almost two years of scrounging up parts and pieces. Do you happen to have a photo record of how you did the tilt front end? I would love to do that on my IIa.

Hi,

I was not aware of SNHLR until your response to this forum, I will check out the site. I would be happy to meet with you to show off my Rover most any time. I'm retired and could drive up about half way, meet for coffee and Rover talk. During the week works best for me but I could get away on a weekend morning for a few hours. I live in Methuen, MA, I'm sure you know where it is. Where are you located? I have a fairly good photo record of the build.

I'm also going to attend the British Invasion in Stowe VT on the 20th of this month. If you have never been, anyone who loves Land Rovers and Brit cars in general would have a great time, 500 - 700 unbelievable cars. We have attended this event the last 11 or 12 years and would not miss it!

I am in Florida now; but was once a Salem / Derry NH boy. The president of SNHLR works in Salem, so it would be easy for you to meet up with those guys. They do events quite often. Off-Roading, meets, shows, etc...

Cool Rack Paul! Good to see you still enjoying the hybrid. Mines been a bit of a pain in the ass lately. Blew the 1st gear clutch pack in the trans last time I was in the woods. The t box went out of gear and caused me to overrev the enine. Sure fire way to kill a ZF clutch pack unfortunately. So I tossed in a used trans I had laying around and went wheeling again. Everything worked great until I got back on the hardroad and it wont shift into 4th. Im going to try and clean the governor, Im hoping that will work but if not I may swap the valve bodies out. Something's stuck. Of course being stuck in water over the door handle several times probably didnt help it much!
Other than that not much going on with mine. Needs a bit of finishing still but despite the issues its a lot of fun to wheel/cruise. Gordo

Hi Gordo,
Thats one heavy transmission, would you consider changing to standard? I'd love to if I found the parts. I think I'd have to bend the shifter, it would most likely be about 6 or 8 inches from the seat back.
Still loving the Hybrid, drive it most every day. I try to make improvements every now and then, slow but steady. The best is passing in the left lane at 80-85!
Good luck getting yours going.
Good hearing from you,
Paul
