If you are looking for something off-road, I would not be shortening the Rangie chasis to 88 inches, I would be getting a long wheelbase Rear and shortening it to 100 Inches, or getting a series Ute cab and putting a tray up the back. 100 to 110 inch wheel bases have proved to be ideal for off road. 88 inch is too short.

That depends on the nature of the off roading.

100" has proven to be pretty much ideal in many cases, however it's simply to BIG to go where an 80" trialer does.

300BHP, I was talking about going off road rather than attempting to turn a tight corner without stopping on a trials course.

thanks Ian, I do agree that 100 inch is a good compromise, Hell Ive wheeled one for years and years with my RRC. Obviously the 100" hybrid would eliminate the issues of the long overhang in the rear, but too be honest I dont think wheelbase is much of a factor in our terrain. It is mostly flat, tight trails with twists and turns through swamp, (ie lots of cypress trees). In this terrain the swb might be better. Either way, Im building an 88 because I had one years ago as my first rover. Unfortunately the frame was toast and was more work than I could take on so I had to sell it. Ive always regretted the decision, despite it being the right one at the time. I now have the space and resources to build an 88, but Ive grown older and like the ride of the coiler and i have an old RRC toy that the body is falling off of and I sourced a 73 series 88 for 500US, so off I go. I appreciate the advice none the less! Gordo
