Question New chip for TD5

Just had the Disco serviced at AMV in Ringwood vic. They offer a new computer and claim that it increases torque and power by 20%.

Anyone had this done?

A lot of Land Rovers have had chip/computer upgrades. What type of computer is it (as a number of them don't deliver the stated fiqures), and, how much do they want for it fitted (you could be over charged for what you get)?

Not personally but spoke yesterday to someone who recently had one done.
Made a huge difference, especially in speed off the mark and towing.
As mentioned there are various types out there. Apparantly a different chip for auto as against manual, and others. His cost was about $900. Can get more info if you wish.

A friend of mine had this done to his Disco II (manual) at a Land Rover specialist in Mackay in QLD. He reckons it makes a big difference in acceleration from standing start and also whilst overtaking on the open road.
He had this modification done about 9 months ago and to my knowledge he has had no problems related to it. I won't see him again till mid-April but when I do I will ask him and post any new details.

A mate of mine installs them in Tasmania for around $1000 and he says they give around 20-30% increase in power and they are a Davies brand.

When I get the money he can do mine

Have spoken to friend with the chip. He says the only down sides are that the engine blows more smoke and he has to brake harder than previously due to the extra torque pushing the vehicle along. Hope this helps.

I hate to be a naysayer, but anyone claiming to get a power increase of 30% out of an ECU upgrade (chip) is stretching it quite a bit. 20% max would be closer to the mark.
