They probably think you're trying to "hit" on them.

I have a Discovery and not to long ago I was on the freeway driving back to Sacramento form San Jose and in my mirror coming up behind me was a pretty tricked out Discovery. This thing was loaded with everything you could think of - lift, roof rack, brush bar, even had a tow strap hangin' from his ladder. So I'm cruisin' along and all of the sudden he flashes me... What!??? Okay, so this guy wants me to move out of the lane so he can pass. I was nice, got over and gave a little wave... Not even a glance. I guess I just wasn't hardcore enough for this guy and his rig. I wave and find not many wave back. To be honest I don't even expect it anymore.

What a schnook! Maybe the ladder is the anchor for his tow strap.

Default waves

In England most of the Rangie drivers are too bloody posh to acknowledge you. They seem to be of the thought that you are some illierate stump who toils in mud and is far too beneith him to wave to.Most everyone in series landy's wave to one another due to the fact we, like defender owners are in a constant state of repair with our vehicles and share a common bond.Let's face it you do have to be mildly eccentric to justify owning a landy to begin with.God knows I am.
As far as is it "normal" to spend the amount of money you are at the moment?Yeah sure, why not.Once you have bitten the bullet on some key machanical repairs you will be fine.Just take care of it and it will take care of you.I've spent thousands on my 109 and have no regret.I bought it with a bit of tlc needing to be done.I knew what I was getting into.Today I have no doubt that I could drive to SCOTLAND AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING!!(EXCEPT THE COST OF PETROL)

Default New problem with waving

I only wave to other series owners now, I gave up on all the others,I get the odd wave from defender drivers but my biggest problem now is when I,m driving my VW work van I automatically wave to the old landys and I get the "what are you waving at" look. So if you see a vw driving electrican between wentworth falls & sydney and your driving an old landy please humour him by waving back. Damo

Great to see this topic being knocked around. I owned a Jeep for years and when i first got it, I started waving to other Jeep owners. I got waves back at first and then none so I stopped. Then guys started waving again. Usually, it was newer jeeps waving to newer jeeps. The guys driving the old ones just squinted with disdain.

Now, when I drive my D90, I wave to other 90s and the rare 110, but no one else, except for the odd pre-95 rangie owner. I don't bother at all when driving my disco1.

I did see a guy driving a 110 one day when i was driving my 90. I saw him before he saw me. I tried to determine whether he was a "waver" or not. He had a horrible scowl on his face and was pretty young. I figured I'd wave anyway when he looked my way. I did and he did, but his "wave" was a 2-inch finger lift off the steering wheel (he was sitting at a red light). It looked like it pained him a great deal. It rather looked like he was working very hard to keep his lunch down. Maybe there was more going on there than I knew...

Like Serg says, there are thousands of disco (i'll second the hot soccer mom comment) and new rangie owners around here and none of them wave or even look. Terry's right, too. Few of the disco owners know that there are other land rover models (or even know they're driving a land rover for that matter) and the newer range rover owners generally just want me to get my luxury-less piece outta the way.

One thing's for sure, the younger the driver, the less likely you're gonna get a wave. It's not cool to acknowledge some schmoe in a defender with 16's when you're cruising in your phat new rangie with 22's.

Peace out

HAHA..oh man, funny stuff...Hek im young but I got my head screwed on right...The whole financial factor of spending money on some heep to put ridiculously huge rims on is just that...RIDICULOUS! and ONLY for looks because those rims/tires have NOO advantage whatsoever! Once again, i hope i havent offended anyone but thats my point of view on things. As for what Griff said, If range rovers were sold in their own dealer, the non-enthusiasts would probably have not know that Rangies were from Land Rover. Hek some people Think Accord is a brand of its own!..NO LIE Oh well, point is, I'm a waver! ..lol

hope i didn't offend you, jc. i'm relatively young, too, although since my son was born i've aged about 30 years... you know, grunting when putting my shoes on and saying "whipper-snapper," and needing a handrail to get up from the john. no, i'm talking 'bout some of these instant-millionaire dudes out here who trick out their new range rovers with $4k worth of rims and then spend the day looking down their noses at the rest of us. man, these guys make me itch.

side note, i live in santa cruz, CA. down there, if you've got an suv, you have to worry about it being tagged by the wannebe hippies. 'course the hummer owners get the worst of it. i do know this guys who drives a new H2 and he just keeps his middle finger up and at the window when he travels through santa cruz. guess he's got his own manner of "waving"...

I just ordered the "H2 Recovery Vehicle" decal so I can drive by his house,,, (CA board members pls note, "drive by" does not mean what you think it means,,, )

... I hear ya, SCSL. this guy i mentioned, he's a bit of a wanker, and his rig won't even see any uneven pavement. i can't wait to park my 90 next to his black pearl coat H2 on a windy day... you know, let some of my rover stink waft through his windows and soak into his plush, calves' hide front seats...
