Default After market sat nav for LR3

Greetings all,

I have just purchased my first ever Land Rover which I pick up today (LR3).

I couldn't afford it with the satellite navigation and given there is a space where the factory fitted sat nav goes, I am interested in getting an after market one hard wired in to that space - has anyone else done this??

I spoke to one place and they have one specifically for it but it's $2000! May as well just got the factory one!!

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sam

My advice is to go to Costco & pick up a Magellan RoadMate 2000 for $200-$250 bucks.... You'll save quite bit of money. And as an added advantage vs. the hard-mounted ones, you'll be able to take it with you on business trips, vacations, other vehicles, etc.

I bought a magellan 3000t from Staples for $299 for my wife, it works very well and has a nice form factor. If i had one slight criticism the processor is just a little slow when you type in an address. With that said I'd recommend the unit to anyone, just pause a little when you are typing. As a GPS and route guidance system it works great. It comes with all the parts you need except a mount that will enable it to fit onto the Air Vents. It does come with a suction cup mount that is very strong but it is illegal to mount in it on the windshield in CA.

I would stay away from Tom Tom, their quality has not been that good based on personal experience. Swapped over 4 times due to faults and then gave up and got a Garmin nuvi.
