Would like to get a hood scoop for the D1. Anyone seen one done for the Discovery?
Adam in NYC

Haven't seen a hood scoop for a disco, but I have seen louvers cut into a RRC hood. Looked nice and increased airflow.
Best of luck, Art Vigil

Bear in mind that forward facing scoops, deep water and V8s will not go, period!

I agree with Geo, water spilling in can cause the disty to not distribute spark evenly, and with no snorkel, can spell bad things for the motor.
If you some how routed a flap around the openings on the inside of the hood that would open via a vacuum source, or a lever, I can see how you can use the hood.

I live on Manhattan Island, and the deepest I plan to wade is about what the factory planned: about mid axle.
Guys, it is a Land Rover, not a submarine. It is not going to Moab nor Alantis. But I do want to keep the engine cool and breathing fresh air.

The scoop may help cool the engine, but the engine air intake is under the left wing and not affected by the engine bay temperature. At least the effect is very minimal. With regards to engine cooling my personal guess is that a vent at the rear end of the engine bay area to allow the hot air to escape will help more than one at the front. If you really want to help the air supply a snorkel will be the better solution.

You should do it!
I would not worry too much about making the scoop a source to feed your intake, though. As for venting air out the back of the engine... why? Last I looked there is a nice large opening on both sides of the engine... towards the ground. More air in is more air out. I think a slim/symmetrical scoop would look sharp.
