As far as I know, no its not possible to build a Mac laptop... One of the things with Apple is the fact that they are the only distributer of their hardware.. unlike PCs where parts are available everywhere. I've never known of anyone building a PC laptop either, but I'm sure its possible.

Why would you want to?
Even PC laptops use so many proprietary parts that there's just no benefit to doing it yourself. To get the thing to work right with whatever chassis you get, you would have to buy all the parts specific to it. Then what's the benefit? Sure you can buy generic made-in-Shanghai replacements parts as opposed to the original branded made-in-Shanghai bits, but the time and effort just isn't worth it.

Im a PC guy myself, and if you wanted to build a PC laptop you could.. but then again if you didnt know you even could I doubt you would be able to =P
Lol, there difficult to build. But if you just want it in your truck you can build small PCs to hide away. Heres a few small cases: Cube: http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=91300 Slim: Good luck, B!L |

Hmm, if I had to guess off the top of my head I would say no, if you have to ask, then its impossible. Unless you know you can do it yourself, its probably not cost effective. Its not easily done due to what has been mentioned above; mainly, Macs are hardware specific.
As for Mac vs. PC. I like macs in a sense, they are clean and have a nice GUI with wonderful (RAM-eating) F-functions and an object dock, etc. etc. Two problems; Power & Compatibility. Not to seem like a shallow geek, I do much more then 'gaming', but to be blunt: Mac/PC

Haha, if you want it for gaming then well.. duh. and as for the "ohh macs have such a clean inerface" mumbo jumbo, if you know how to use a pc to its full potential it can be beautiful. observe, a screenshot of my desktop right now:
![]() Notice the clean, partially transparent aim window and object box (the only feature I like about a mac). These things are just downloadable, but then you have to set them up, which if you took the time to do, eventually you could. Also notice the modified theme. that was a bit harder to do, but again, if you took the time and read up a little you could have your windows deskop looking 10x better than any mac. Cheers B!L |

but at the same time if you took the time and read up you could have your mac desktop looking 10x better than any windows combination. I was a pc guy untill this year when i bought the macbook pro. I LOVE IT. But at the same time i have windows installed on it too...so i still have both OS. And i have tweaked my windows liek yours, with the dock/object bar and everything. ![]()

Hehe... I personally liked this particular full-mac conversion that I had a while back called flyakiteOSX Tiger. Had Object dock, top-desk, aero effects (WindowBlinds), etc. etc. Pretty cool.
Also, down on the page you can see my "why PC's pwn mac" rave. For those iMac freaks... The only problem is that windows does not have as stable an operating system as does Apple. Their Unix-based OS is superior....so as much as I would like to have all the pretty effects, it just doesn't work out as well as when they are actually built into the OS. What I realized is that short of a windows 98 theme, the standard XP one slows the computer down the least. Once you add specialty icons, aero effects, etc., it beings to affect performance....especially on mine right now. It was a battle cruiser of yesteryear; AMD 64 Athlon 3200+ (Venus heatsink) MSI K8N Neo-Platinum (now an ASUS K8N due to MSI dieing) MSI 5900XT 1gig Kingston HyperX PC3200 timing: 2-3-2-6 Ive been planning a new comp for nearly 6 months now, here's what it is now (the 'main' parts of it): Core 2 Duo e6600 (OC to 3.5ghz) Asus MOBO using new nForce 680i SLI chipset EVGA 8800GTX (or 8900 if it happens to come out by the time I build) 2gig Corsair Dominator PC8500 btw, you play CS:S? Also, sry for hijacking....if we talk more, we'll make another thread.
