Yeah I couldn't imagine it'd be very difficult to install... i mean, it's drilling and bolting, thats not difficult.. The only thing I personally dont like is how far the frame is from the sill, and the rods you'll have to run to it... maybe a combination of sill & frame mounted will prevent any 'twisting' of the sills, but I've been happy with my sill mounted sliders.

yeah, the actual frame is a long way off. actually what i did was use the body mount points. and my 1x2 1/4" wall goes inside the body mounts. so we achieved the same strength as going to the frame but without having to span the distance which would have required more supports. however in this case the strength of the frame vs sill mounted was needed.

I personally run a set of MOFAB sliders and love them, but I do not need them to act as a step. RTE's are rock solid, all i can say is the ones I have installed and seen on Discos take a hell of a beating, just touch up with a rattle can. Personally I havent seen any RTE's sliders give any problems at all. They actually incorporate an under belly slider also. Just my 2 cents worth.

remember the sill and frame do not move as one, there are rubber bushings under the body so don't connect the sill and the frame solidly.

RockWare makes frame mounted with rubber bumpers to the sill.

Slickrock Fabrication makes some great sill mounts.

Thor, you've brought up a point I had not thought about! I may just have MOFAB make me some with a step if the price is right. Otherwise, RTE is the way to go.

You'd have to set it down pretty hard to bend the step into the door. I jacked one side up with a high lift one time using the ARB step.

in your pic there did that disco have sill mounted sliders? and if so did they hold up to that drop? just curious i don't have a whole lot of faith in sill mounted sliders. i watched discodude and funrover bend theirs up. thats why when i built rovertrain his we went to frame. but also when our group goes out and wheels we don't see much mud, we see mostly rocks.

good step, almost useless protection. On one trip we had to jack up one car using this step design, it bent so far you could not open the door while it was on the jack. In fairness it did go back again when off the jack again.

Good call. I used my RTE's on my 1995 to good effect on the Colorado rocks. I re-sprayed them a lot, but no bending.

The design on the RTE is 2 L shaped pieces that are bolted together through the sill, so you actually get a double layer of steel on the bottom. Plus a very tight fit to the sill. Just follow the directions carefully.
