I have a(4xRack)high lift jack mounting kit(which I have yet to mount).Want to get it on before I head for Moab.Going eventually add half(MoFab) rack for roof but don't know that I will get it ordered and back to me in time to install. With that being said what are some other(usual locales) to mount that won't get in the way or reduce off road ability or usability of the jack.

On the bull bar, on the floor behind the front seats, on the rear door spare tire mount, on the roof rack if you get it installed in time.

x2 on the floor behind the seats!
Haven't used mine in two years, when I used it two weeks ago to remove tree stakes it worked like a charm due to the lack of corrosion and road / trail crap all over it. Mine is bolted to a roof rack mount which is bolted to the floor. Two RR rubber floor mats keep it covered so the kids toes don't get caught in the works. Of course it can only be the 48" if you prefer to drive with the rear doors closed. Keeps the weight lower in the rig too! I sold my rack and put the spare on the cargo floor strapped down.

Is it legal in the states to have it mounted to the bullbar ? I was going to mount mine on the front but have been told it's illegal here . how would it go if mounted to the cargo barrier ? or not secure enough ?

I know quite a few people mount them there, and I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket.

Trying to acquire all the necassary recovery equipment that I can(from what I hear they are usefull in a variety of situations) but I agree that they take up space somewhere(hence my original question) and look to be dangerous if not secured properly(or used properly). But the old addage(can't use it if I don't have it with me) might apply in Moab if it is sitting in my garage in St.Louis.

Hi lifts are meant for winching if you don't have access to a winch, and lifting a vehicle enough to build some road underneath a tire. Changing a tire is not a great use of a high lift, get a tall bottle jack and chock the wheels.
You have to assume the vehicle will fall off the jack, possibly even intentionally to get the vehicle to a more advantageous position. I'm no expert, but this seems to be the consensus from some rather experienced off-roadie types I've met. I know my 48" jack won't even lift any of my wheels off the ground without a scary tall base, hence the bottle jack in the rig. Get proper training, they can be used safely.

Roof Rack
![]() Oh and make sure to understand the limitations of the high lift. I'm also of the school of thought that better to have and not need then need and not have.

I dont like that spot here in the north east. I use the rack as a tree slider and the hi lift would just get ripped off or worse on the trees. On the floor behind the seats tied down is my favorite spot, But where ever you put it lock that bad boy down.

I also put mine (60") in the floor behind the front seats. I only carry it when Im hitting the trails, and I have the hi-lift case so if theres passengers in the back they can just put their feet on it. Also, if you just want something for hand winching you could get a heavy duty come-along. It would take up less space.
