I am the unfortunate owner of two Blitz CARB legal metal gas cans (5 gal). They leak when closed, leak when pouring gas, and leak whenever you look at them the wrong way. I have tried new gaskets, moving the gaskets around in different combinations, and teflon tape on the threads. I even put two garbage bags over the top and duct taped the bastard closed... It turns out the gas still leaked out making quick work of the duct tape and turning the passenger compartment into a hazardous living area.
Searching the world wide interweb I stumbled across this: http://www.arb.ca.gov/newsrel/nr072402.htm It appears the state of CA recognizes the problem with these "spill proof" pieces of crap as well. I've spilled FAR more gasoline with this style jerry can (gleelessly poluting the environment) than with the traditional variety (which I can't even purchase in CA ).Has anyone else experienced similar problems with these or do I just have a faulty batch? Even if I had a roof rack I wouldn't store these cans on it as they would just leak all over my paint. Maybe I'll just get some RTV and glue the damned top shut, hoping I won't have to use the gas... Suggestions? ![]() |
