Lightbulb Blue Heat

Anyone heard of this? I saw something on the local news about the products.

What it is are two choices of devices. One taps into the cooling system, to the heater core of the vehicle, and heats the coolant, sorta like a block heater, but more internal, and it keeps the heater nice and warm for instant warm air when you enter the vehicle. It works off a remote or a timer integrated into the system.

The other device is like a base model heater, that just keeps the duct work of the HVAC system warm for again instant warm air. Keeps the interior nice and warm, however doesn't keep the engine warm for a warm start up in the morning.

Seems like a cool device, however the sticker price of over $1700 installed?! Yeah, seems like a real expensive block heater to me.

I found the website for the products: http://www.webastoshowroom.com/blueheat/index.html

Check it out, what y'all think?

I agree with ya right there, on the remote starter.

I know some Jeep straight sixes, had block heaters. I just get used to getting into a cold car in the morning or during the winter anyways. The butt warmers in my truck work a little, so at least my ass isn't freezing, but I don't care for that kinda luxury item.

Plus, I don't think the market for this kinda device would be all that great, automakers might now develope something that will work off of small current to keep things warm from a 12V source. While this device probably requires a real good battery to power, but hell, I figure if whoever can afford this thing, can afford it, they could afford an Optima Yellow/Red Top.

Usually these things use a separate fuel line from the gas tank and use the gas to make heat. Maybe this one's different?

Hmm...if the device had an equivalent, that ran off of gas, that might be cool, but I wouldn't trust something like that to heat the inside of my truck, just my 2 cents.

You can buy one that runs off gas or diesel. 12v or 24v. Espar/Eberspacher also make the same types of heaters. They have a huge following in the UK, etc. Mostly truckers and RV's use them stateside. I'm in the midst of installing an eberspacher hyrdronic d2 in my defender. The cabin heater never gets cold enough and when left at idle, the engine coolant cools down too much to heat adequately.
