Unhappy Brush bar paint problem

hey guys, my brush bar has a couple bad spots where the paint is peeling and its rusting, is there a home solution way to repainting this without spending a ton of cash?

My parents old LWB did that...I just took the whole thing down to bare metal, covered it with a zinc enriched primer than someblack rustoleum paint...Looked great.... used 4 spray cans....2 primer and one color and one clear coat...Did the whole thing under $20

Take it off and have it Line-X'd or Rhinolined.
I did that with my lamp guards in the back.

I'd recommend Okie's solution, but if you really need to do it cheaply, just strip the infected metal and spray-paint it. Make sure you either take the bar off first, or mask it exceptionally well. Good luck!

Stripping it and painting is the way to go. Although, the rhino covering is not a bad idea at all. hmmm

If dollars and cents is a concern, they do have a Rustoleum (sp?) paint with texture. I am sure that would pretty good too. I think they call it "Hammered".

If you get around to doing it (and take it off) take a good look at the mounts that attach to the bumper. Those are in costant exposure and should be checked carefully. If you can not get those cleaned out completely I would use a good rust stop and coat the heck out of it.

I used a spary on liner on mine and it worked great, and If i would have prepped it right, it would have been even better....

having it rhino lined sounds pretty cool....though I say just save yourself the time and effort (and money) and go get a can of rustolium, pull of the peeling paint and repaint it.....though...you might have to re-paint the whole thing due to color...if that is the case, I think the rhino lining would be around $30-40....would look pretty cool too.

How about hornet? Yellow and black. Great for the distracted walkers with the cellphones watching something else.

where do you guys purchase this RHINO spray? Also you could get it powdercoated. It sounds expensive but there is a powdercoater in my town and is so reasonably priced that if my brush guard starts to go, he is going to be the first to see it.

if you are going to repaint it, try an epoxy paint.. might hold up better... if you are going to use rustoleum or tremclad type paint, make sure that you wire wheel all the rust off. As well you might want to use a paint brush (less overspray) and add some acrylic hardeners to the mix to give the paint some strength.
