Hey yall, I know I should give it a rest, but I seriously need help getting the Bumper and Brush Bar and winch like the ones from the camel trophy Discoveries. I know I keep popping up and talking about the Camel Trophy Bumper and Brush Guards and Winch, but to me all the other brush bars are just a bunch of POS's. I dont like the TJM's, and people say that the ARB's are not that strong and great, and honestly I believe the camel trophy brush bars are the best, CAN someone just help me find out where I can purchase one? I've tried every single place I can think of and none of them have them or no longer carry them.

If you ever look closley at the CT set up, it is terrible for off the road, the damn winch stick out way too far and low killing any change og doing much hard wheeling.

Dude the ARB sticks out just as much, its just the CT looks as though it sticks out more because they are more slimmer than the ARB and the TJM's (no offense all)to look plain 'ol crappy, so crappy you can smell 'em coming a mile away. but yeah I just want them CT brush bars, its something different and if its good enough to go through the jungle in the middle of the rainy season its good enough for me. so does anybody know where to get them suckers or what?

The setup of the camel trophy bumper seems to be a Saudi bumper [same as the US spec bumper, but the bottom 1/2 of it is trimmed off.. you can cut yours to match if you dont feel like shelling out the cash for it].. I'm not sure who makes the actual brush guard, I haven't seen anyone selling it..
But as for the strength of that setup VS the ARB or TJM.. I'd have to say inferior.. you have the standard plastic bumper and then a regular thin brush guard, which I've heard from people tend to bend very easily when pushing through things.. also, if its anything like the way the standard brush guard is mounted, you loose clearance on the mounts of it.. You have to remember the TJM & ARB are solid steel/aluminum.. |

Those are all fine and dandy,but I want the real CT brush guards and I already know where to get limb raisers. I'm not one to get fake and or generic brush guards that are weaker or have been cut, hense the asking for where I can obtain the CT brush guards. Which brings me to the point, where Can I find some CT brush guards?

DiscoDan, didn't you mention in a thread a few weeks ago that you had called Mantec or Brownchurch and they told you they don't manufacture that combo for the Disco anymore? If so, then it seems you might have two options: Call the manufacturer back and ask what distributors in the US bought them. Call those distributors (probably RN, AB, BP) and see if they happen to have 1 or 2 laying around in the back that were forgotten (you've probably already done this). The only other option I see is to hope someone has a used bumper/brush bar that they want to part with... and no one on this forum seems to know of such an instance. Sorry man, but if they aren't being made anymore then you may be SOL. Or you can find a local metal shop to build a custom set-up.
Good luck, because it'll look great when you're done!For those of you interested in that limb riser set-up pictured above, you can build the kit yourself for less than $50. Those tubular turnbuckles are available for around $20 ea at sailnet.com. Then you just need cable and a few other bits and pieces. I think RN sells a very similar kit for around $250 for the Defender. They do look sweeter than the off-the-shelf turnbuckles from the hardware store. And by the way, on a Disco you usually won't be able to open the hood without taking them off...

You remind me of my children. When they got it in their head they wanted something, they were like a broken record ( a hold over expression used by old people who remember when music came on a circular disc with grooves).
If what you are after is the brush bars shown on the RN wallpaper clips, allow me a chance to offer my opinion. But before you even reply, I'm not a 'Dude' as you refer to others, am not interested in how sensitive your nose is, as you have pointed out, and, no doubt like others, am getting a bit weary of your rantings. The bar you are refering to is attached to the vehicle with three 1/2" x 4" bolts, per side. through the frame horns. This is precisely where and how Land Rover mounts it's accessory brush bars. In a very short period of time, the brush bar becomes loose, to the extent it can be moved in and out at the top, and the holes in both frame and bar mounts become egg shaped. No amount of bolt tightening will cure this. Fog or driving lights, mounted to the bar will never remain in alignment, and any good punch to the front will (trust me when I say this) shear a few bolts and the bar comes right back to, and often into the hood. The bar is mounted atop, but not to, the Land Rover (accessory) winch bumper, which IS still available. The bumper mounts to the END of the frame horns, an inherently stronger method. If you have an opportunity to watch some of the Camel Trophy videos, you will see those Discos in various states of damage, including the front. Regardless of your opinion of ARB, TJM (how about Safari Gard? you haven't berated them yet,) they are of unit constrction, and mount in a more structurally sound manner. Their mount is directly to, and over, the frame horn ends, in an axial direction, as is the original Land Rover bumper). All of them are of sturdy construction, and the Safari Gard's brush bar portion is even shaped like the Camel brush bar. But any bumper will bend on the ends given a hard enough jolt. This is a pricipal VOLVO has demonstrated in their 'crumple zone' design, and rather than be so strong as to transfer all the impact to the 14 guage frame horns, allowing them to bend instead, they absorb that impact before further damage. Regardless of you oft stated opinions ( obviously not based on first hand knowledge) of ARB, TJM and others, Those manufacturers are still in business, a fact usually supported by sales. Admittedly, each and everyone who buys one may be less intelligent than you, but certainly intelligent enough to have bought your prefered Camel Trophy bar if they chose to. Usually when something is no longer available, it was because their was insufficient sales to warrant keeping it alive. Just because something was used by the builder originally, it does not preclude the quality of aftermarket suppliers products. I have two of the Special Vehicle Divison's finest at the moment, A NAS 110, and an XD, and I can tell you, there is lots of room for improvement. But, Hey, what do I know? I'm just an old dude, whose owned and driven Land Rovers for 35 years, some dozen or more not including the 5 presently driven. |

Hey Dan, why dont you give it a rest about the Camel Trophy Bumpers. Obviously if have not found a vendor or a person that is selling them, there probably isnt any for sale, and if you are so obsessed with Camel Trophy Bumpers why dont you just buy a CT vehicle? Really does it matter in the end what kind of bumper you use? Just as long as your vehicle is protected and you get out of the mud, is all that you should be worried about. If anything just being blessed to have a land rover is good enough.
