Arrow CB install suggestions

Anyone with suggestions where I could mount my CB in my 02 Disco II? I have a Uniden, so it is not a compact version. Could really use a creative view point.

Thanks

You mounted the unit on the center console? Do you have a pic of that? Looks good!

Default Your Disco II

I notice your A bar, I just purchased one just like it from DAP. Do you do the install yourself? I am having a dilly of a time just getting the front bumper off. Any suggestions?

Well you have the link but here is a pic of where I mounted mine, right on the dash peice. Sry Josh couldn't help it, the "CB..." title caught my eye.

Here's the pic but it is in my RRC, which is kinda like a disco soft dash i think:

A different variation on mounting it would be to mount it behind the console, directly to the box, facing up.
Oe thing that hasn't been mentioned is the placement of the antenna. I mount my K40 antenna on the roof, directly in front of the rear sun roof. The reason for that spot is your roof is all steel, and being centered there give you the best signal strength in all directions, where as if the place it on the front or rear bumper in one corner you restrict you antenns ability to send and receive at greater distances.

I was thinking about that but then I thought.....wait......common, why do I need it to broadcast super far?? My firestik antenna isnt going to go that far anyway, its a no-ground antenna......your K40 is superior.....but I just dont need it. Every time we have used it it was in a convoy.....short distance. The only time I wish mine had more strength (and I would just have to buy a K40 anyway) would be when I was trying to find the group at hollister.

btw, mike, how did you wire yours up?

I mounted mine on the rear tire carrier...wired it through the door...I would probably do so with a more powerful antenna also.

btw...no problem Pat, pictures are fun

what kind of picture would you like.....I have included two at different angles.....you should be able to figure out about the location where I placed it.

Im sry, I didnt put my brushbar on myself, I bought it with it on. I would have to look at it more to figure out how to install a brushbar or remove the bumper.

Josh,
We dropped the headliner and worked the antenna lead ober to the B pillar and down under the carpet to the back of the console.
It was a pretty easy instalation.

Here's a good step-by-step on mounting an antenna to your Disco. I commented in the other CB thread that I love my Midland 75-882 handheld CB, I keep it in the console out of site if not in use and if you want it left out you can mount it just about anywhere. Wired to the antenna it's just as powerful as most console radios and if you ever lose power, you attach the battery pack and you still have a good CB.

huh......I should really do something like that....the carpet I think. Mine is just weaved between the seats and what not to lead up to the front.

I put it under the carpet mats if that counts as anything

I like the idea of having a hand held radio alonh with my main CB, my concern is that nearly all hand held only put out 1 1/2 watts. of power to the average full size at 4 watts. Plus a full size can have the limiter pulled giving you 20 watts out and if you are in trouble you have a better chance of being heard.

That's true, I live in VA and we have lots of mountains, but even when off-roading still usually always close to a resident or someone. I keep forgetting there are other places out there and you may need some distance to communicate.

I understand what you are asking now.....

...mine didnt come with a backing plate of any sort.....what I did was pretty much ditch the small screws they came with and got myself some wider screws.....not wood ones....I remember the ones I used having a high thread count.....anyway, I used 3 of those and simply screwed them into the carpet-backing...it holds it find, doesnt wiggle or anything.. Im sure you could drill two more holes to get 5 screws in there if you were concerned with the strength.

I dont have any pictures taken of this, because there was no prep work involved....just positioned it and screwed them in.

keptin,

Thanks for the input and words. I will mount mine just like that. Not a whole lot of room to work with, but access to the device is my concern. Thanks again!
