2004 Discovery II driver

I've got a 2004 Disco 2. I really would like to buy a decent CB Radio and antenna setup ($200 or less). I am not sure which model or company I should go with I heard some of the cheaper cobras are decent for occasional chitchat. I need to figure out a good place (preferably not anyplace too visible) to mount the hub and I was thinking of putting the antenna in between the spare tire mount and the door on the spare tire mount bracket.
Anyone have any CBs installed? What do you recommend?

The cleanest, least bulky, most inexpensive way to go...
http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=...duct_id=5&id=1 Go on ebay or amazon...even RadioShack sells them cheaper than MSRP. Then get yourself a Firestik antenna

ok, well i'm glad i'm on the same page. That one caught my eye just because I can hide it and not lean over and deal with channels. You think the antennae mounted in the back is a good idea? I am probably just gonna go with a magnetic mounted antenna until I get my roofrack...then I'll do a hard mount to that.

Mount the antenna on the spare tire carrier. (Flip the spare tire carrier at the same time so you don't have to do it later...) It's a clean and simple install. Run the antenna cable through the rear wiper grommet in the door, through the door grommet/sleeve and in behind the side trim. It will take you all of 30 minutes to do. Start from the outside so the door grommet is easier to get through.

On the all in one radios, yes they are small and easy to hide but you can't tune them up like most CB's to the 20 plus watt radios many of us have grown to like because of there effective distance with an above average antenna.
I run a Wilson 1000 antenna off the roof of my D2, you get all that steel roof to help your signals. Other then that I think the spare tire antenna is the next best way to go with a good 3 or 4 foot fire stick or similar antenna. Mike |
