I bought my disco with an alpine cd player already installed but it is wired directly to the battery I believe. It does not turn on when the car is started. I have to push the power button. It does not save the radio station I was listening to or the audio settings I have for the speakers. I was wondering can this be re-wired so that it turns on when the car is turned on? Also I have two speakers on my rear hatch door. They do not seem to work... are they subwoofers or just plain old speakers?

my aftermarek stereo works like a normal one would. you would have to get it rewired to the ingition switch or something like that.

Okay more then likely those two speakers on the rear door are the factory subs. During install of the Alpine that might have been rewired with a bypass because there are also factory amps built in that push those speakers... not to mention the other speakers.
As for the setting loss. I would think if the radio is wired directly to the battery you should have a constant power source and would not reset each time you turned it on. Sounds like you will need to do some rewiring on that thing. If I recall correctly there is a power source and then there is going to be simple relay such as the ignition supply... or even power port (cig. lighter)... or even another accessory that only works with the ignition on. For starters , I would work on pulling the radio out to inspect the wiring. This will let you see how chopped the wires are, or if an adapter was used to rewire the system, etc. If your factory wiring is intact you can always order an aftermarket wiring adapter (I believe Crutchfield has some)... If the previous install was a slice and dice job... maybe a small invest in professional clean up would be well worth your time... not to mention peace of mind.
