Lightbulb Custom Snorkel...

Hey, Josh S. (keptin), came up with an idea over on LRR, about my intake, and how I should try making a snorkel. I think I can make something out of PVC 3" diameter piping, just the routing of the pipe and what to cut out, has me baffled, sorta.

What you guys think? This is just a rough idea.

First off your gonna want to remove and block up the hole left by your current intake trumpet.

How tidy do you want to make the mod? Just sometimes the drain pipe approach can end up looking really naff.

What top are you going to use, mantec style, mushroom prefilter or safari forward facing style?

When you do make it up make sure you not only waterproof the joints of the snokel but also the dizzy, coil and any other electrictrickery under the hood.

How did the camel RRCs route their snorkels?

I know it is a P38 but here's what someone else has done.

Or maybe even like this one on a disco!

Nope, you want to use a 2 5/8" exhaust pipe with a Safari Snorkel top ($70). Then get some flex hose and chop part of the trumpet.

Real easy to do on a Rangie for under $100.

Yep, I have some pics at home of the setup. You can get the snorkel top from 4x4connection and the exhaust from a muffler shop. The hardest part is getting a flex hose the right size. I think I got mine at Home Depot or Lowe's (it's been a while).

Your welcome, hope it worked out ok for you.

Wow, John, sounds pretty logical!! Anyway you can upload some pics of how you did it?

I really wanna try to make this thing on my own. And Geo, yeah I will keep in mind about keeping the disty and coil, dry from water, I dunno if I'll be doing real deep water crossing though, but I will keep it in mind.

Just save some money up and do it right. I have seen too many half assed jobs. Too many people try to take the cheap bastard route and their trucks look like trash.

I see. and I take it PVC doesn't normally come in that size?

oh well, a steel intake would sound better anyway. or, I wonder if one could get aluminum in that size...
