Alright, this has been in the works for a while and finally its starting to come together. I have just purchased the steel today and we should be building it this weekend and next week.
Ive got a mock up that ive posted....it will look very similar to those. I dont have the plate steel yet, so if we dont get it by the time we build this, consider that gas skid an upgrade. We have recently incorperated a swing out tire carrier to hold the weight and size of a 34-35" tire. The whole bumper is made of .188" steel. The carrier is made of .120". The main mount is made of .25". The side supports (like mikes bumper) will be in the design, but it is undecided how we will mount them just yet. Just bought the turn signals. Ill be using 2 on the bumper, but I bought 4 total; 2 clear amber, and two amber amber. The two I dont use on the rear bumper will be used for a custom front bumper. ![]() ![]() ![]()

thanks guys, yup, ive got a friend helping with the bumper, he will be doing the welding.
Not sure about the highlift, ill have to look into how we could incorperate that. I dont want it on the rear of the bumper because then it would drag. I have been thinking about a single or double jerrycan holder. Ill see how we can incorperate that. Actually, were talking over at LRRF about how we can produce multiple bumpers of my design and dimensions for both D1s and DIIs.

hehe...well.....hopefully I'd make some money off the design, but whoever was doing the work with the welding and distributing would make the most.

Josh,
The best part is making enough money to make you own free!!! After that it is all gravy. Looks like a clever design. I am finishing the roof rack pretty soon and will be turning my sights to a new front bumper... can not wait to see what you come up with for a front bumper.

thanks, I cant wait to see what I come up with either. hehe. Ive got ideas about an RTE-based slimline-look, but not quite so flat at the front, maybe a more angled-sides look.
we'll just have to see.

I *edit* may release the specifications and design to the public once the bumper is completed. I wouldnt make too much out of it.....it would be much more gratifying to see others using my design.

eh....because im lazy. Ill never get around to patenting the design, plus, it takes extra cash. Ill probably also never mass produce them either.
I dont know.....we'll see. The only thing that I would be angry with is if someone took the specs and called them thier own. But is that worth getting a patent for it? Probably not.

My neighbor's father-in-law designed a bra for his wife many years ago and wasn't going to patent it due to the fact he just did it for his wife, who couldn't find one that fit properly. This bra was unlike anything else at the time and after his wife tried it, she found it the most comfortable bra she had ever worn. It got to a point that women in the city they lived in all wanted him to make one of the bras for them. He finally decided to patent the thing and is VERY well off for it. The name of the bra - The Cross-Your-Heart bra. True story. So you better think of some names for your bumper and get a patent. You never know, you could be rolling in $$$ after you sell the patent to a company who can mass produce it. Then you can buy as many Rovers as you'd like... There's nothing like being rich before you turn 18 my friend...
