Default Driving Lights or Fog Lights?

Do you guys recommend aftermarket driving lights or fog lights? I have a factory Discovery Brush Guard installed with the mounting holes for lights and would like to put a set on. How hard are they to wire on the DII? Has anyone used PIAA Driving lights vs HELLA Driving lights? The reason I ask is b/c I have the ability to get PIAA at wholesale and HELLA at retail.

Just added Hella 500 fogs to my 2002 Disco II, went like this:

I mounted (2) Hella 500 fog lights to a light bar on my front bumper (adding the light bar was a project in itself, since the bumper had to come off).

I went with fogs for two reasons: 1) My SD did not have factory fogs and 2) some driving lights are not legal in certain states unless you are off road

The Hella 500s are economy lights but I like the way they looked and the price didn't break the bank. I'm sure there are much better lights out there, but the 500s worked for me.

Wiring: I used the supplied Hella wiring harness and relay. This installed without a hitch. I wired the relay to the battery/fuse box. Then I tapped the red wire feeding the lower headlight enclosure for the parking lights. By tapping this red wire, I am able to have my fogs on with park lights only, main lights and hi beams. The other benefit of this scheme is, the fogs always go off when my lights get turned off.

Tip: When wiring your lights, make sure you pick a good ground point in advance. This may require longer wires then supplied. A bad ground can cause one or both lights to not work.

PIAA at cost beats Hella at retail any day of the week...
Fog lamps are more useful in bad weather... they come in handy

Slap some Hella 4000 Fogs on the front of that bar. Wiring is only hard the first time, after that, it's a breeze. Ho chung at EE can definitely help you out with the nitty gritty wiring stuff.

i've got some 4K's I plan to sell off- too big, too expensive, too little in the performance department. Not a great sales pitch to get rid of my lamps, but the truth hurts sometimes.
