LMAO, I had one of those years ago. Only it was a 1974 AMC Hornet. It burned up months later. Most likely some short it the wiring.

If they are both new I would start tracing the wiring and look for a short someplace. When you say new how new are they and did anything change when you replaced either of them?

I own a old ford pick-up 1977 F-250 and have found the following site to be a good place for help with the truck. They deal with all years of Ford trucks, not just the older stuff.

dunno of this helps, but its my $0.02.

I have owned nearly every incarnation of the P.O.S Ford P/U ever made, have one right now as a matter of fact )

Anyhow...what Ive come to believe is that; Mechanically..they are bulletproof.
Electronically...they are made of cheesecloth.
New starter+new solenoid...ruling out the odd bit of electrical connectivity that can be influenced by banging on the solenoid should be easy enuff..
leaving only some byzantine electronic device that responds coincidentally to the time required to climb out of the truck and locate a heavy, convincing, object to use, banging on the solenoid (while attempting to stay clean) and hitting the starter again.

smells like an electronic gizmo.

BS
