Default Ground Anchor

Hey, just wondering what you think the best ground anchors are.

I am looking to purchase one as I have always been a user of three spikes and a piece of rope. I once tried the spade type but it seems alot to carry.

I'm normally in snow, thick muddy clay and sometimes sandy stuff

The picture shows a Ground Anchor that i was considering for myself. the advantage to this one is it can be folded for portability. if something like this interests you let me know. If you dont mind waiting a while i would be happy to order a couple of them instead of just the one.
Cheers.

What's the cost on that? I've used spades before but they can be difficult to remove from the ground after along pull.

Stolen; if you ever go out with JC and I here in Florida, you'll see how important a PullPal can be. In sugar sand, and other heavily sanded areas, there are many places where we cannot anchor our winches too. In Corbette, there are a couple of trails where even my 125 feet of cable can't make it between trees. We always run multiple vehicles, but if you were by yourself, an anchor would be necessary.

true. florida does have a plain/desert like effect in the dry season. I've driven in places like that with some other people, we made it through, but we saw some deep spots where the sugar sand was really bad compared to what we were going through. regardless, i don't have a winch.

I could have REALLY used a PullPal in several situations... luckily though, I found a Chrysler Product PullPal during one outting, but it kept moving under load...

Another time, I used my spare and a pipe I use as a cheater bar for removing the lugs off the wheels....tied them together with a strap and dug them into the ground...attached the winch line to it and although it did move a bit, it held up and allowed me to winch out of the situation I was in.

Yup spot on there! Not everywhere has trees or handy boulders to winch from. Yes you can winch off another vehicle, but that's is only if you are trying to go backwards or if the other vehicle made it through where you couldn't!

Up here in Wales there are plenty of places where there is nothing but peat bog and heather! Nowt to winch off for miles! This is when a ground anchor is a damned useful bit of kit. Bit like in the desert or like you in Florida.

Have any of you thought about making your own? they aren't that hard to do and you'd save yourself some hard earned!

Jc; every time I winch off of a Heep, the damn thing has to dig in holes with it's tires first. We weigh almost twice what they do. lol. Looks like that was a "pre-lift" photo of the marlin. If you were lifted, you'd of had less contact with the frame, and less suction. Therefore, a much easier pull.
