X's 2...but the name has always killed me "cold air intake" .....and where is it drawing it's air from.....a hot engine compartment. Just my 2 cents worth.

if you have a properly sealed air box with a well made heat shield it really does make a huge difference in temperature. I gained 11rwhp on a steeda cold air intake (plus a dyno tune) on my old mustang, while a normal intake without a heat shield with a dyno tune made only half the power.
ian, i can see how you're saying its a great performance modification. i don't doubt that you gained alot of power from it, but having a cone filter while splashing around in mud or water cannot be advantageous to your rover. do you have pics of your setup so we can see how you made the heat shield or sealed up the intake from water/heat?
I have often found that the only gain was at highway speeds and at that not enough to justify the expense. In town there isn't enough air flowing thru to cool the engine and what what I have heard and seen no real gain.
What were the benefits you gained when installing yours?
Thanks

I am not talking about the "cold air intakes" in those links. I am talking about actually getting the air from outside the bonnet. The easiest way on a 4WD is a snorkel. On street cars I am talking about something like this. SS Inductions - Performance Automotive Enhancements

I cannot quote HP as it was not put on a dyno. I had previous played around with different ignition systems, different exhausts and manifolds, Different intake manifolds and even different engines. I had an open air filter sucking air from on top of the engine and I changed it to sucking air from a vent I had in the side of the bonnet. This made the biggest difference out of any individual previous change.
