Default I'm going to be starting on my rear bumper too!

After seeing

Josh's (keptin) bumper

and Jarrods bumper.

Mofab and other homemade bumpers

I decided to build my own (with help of course)

I saw this picture on D-web and like the way it looks

Mines is going to be something along these lines. Nothing too fancy just strong and functional. as I will be taking my Truck through the Rubicon. Also I'm buying Steel pretty soon.
so if anyone in the bay area wants to help or can give good advice or can weld feel free to PM me and we ca get this started. I'm trying to have it complete by my Birthday
which is December 16,2006 also at that time my RTE front should be on as well.

He he I think the guy cut it off so he made the D-rings instead.

I'm going to keep the hitch. It's great for cars who like to hit the back of Discos

Looks to be a copy of the Greg Davis bumper adapted for a D1.

Well I bought two 5 foot square tubes of Steel yesterday. The size was 3 x 2 inches and 3/16 thickness. This will be the quarter panel protection. Next weekend I'm buying a 5/half foot long 2 x 4 square tubing also 3/16 thickness this will be the main part of the bumper and what's left of the other steel will be used as reinforcement. This will be a nasty bumper.

How's the progress going on the bumper???

I can't wait to see this thing. Are you planning to do any cutting of your quarter panels? I wanna see how your quarter panel protection works out. Is that going to be like a rear slider (is it strong enough?). Soon, I'm going to start making my beefy front bumper as mine is only glued together with mud and clay barely holding on to life.

Can't wait to see your progress.

It's coming along I'm having the body trimmed in the lower quarter panels
the 3x2 steel will be used as the quarter protection. While the 2x4 Steel will be the main bumper it is also 3/16th.

The steel is quite Strong. 3/16th
