Lightbulb Intake Splash Guard

Today, I went to wash the truck's motor, and got sick and tired of having to always clean the cone filter from all the mud that splashed from the tires and onto the filter.

So I made some templates and got a top for a Rubbermaid container and cut peices out of it to make a plastic splash gaurd. Added some weather stripping I had around and I got finished product mounted to a lip on the driver side wheel well, using two bolts. When the hood comes down, it makes a nice seal and I assume now won't have to worry about anymore mud and/or water hitting my filter.

Yeah thats great, but you might want to modify it so during normal road driving you can remove it because it don't half look like it is restricting the fresh cool air from the front grille reaching it!

A mate of mine used to use a plastic bucket over his K&N filter in his series LR when he was likely to encounter mud or water. It only takes 30 seconds to pop the hood and put it on! Worked a treat too!

Also note the dizzy waterproofing as well!

You might have a point there Geo...But since it takes me like 30 minutes just to pop my hood (ratchet straps), I went for this thing. But I like the disty waterproofing!! Cheap and easy!!

That's why I am not a huge fan of the open element air intakes. Like it's not easy enough for water to make it into the OEM airbox with the big fan spinning around, now your making it that much easier! Pat especially where you live and where you wheel I am suprised you haven't ingested a ton of water and hydrolocked your motor yet. Not wishing ANY bad mojo on you, just food for thought. If you lived out in the southwest it may be a different story, but you live in the land of mud and deep water holes!!

The water hasen't soaked into the filter, it's just the chunks of mud that find their way onto the filter makes it a real PITA to clean after every time. But I will use the open air element intake for use of stret driving, and then easily slap on the box and paper filter (maybe with Fram's Air Hog filter) on there for trail use.

Another update with that splash guard...if anything it does restrict air...so DON'T MAKE ONE. I noticed my freeway mileage sucked majorly last night, and so today I cut off the panel that is next to the coil and power steering pump reservoir. I dunno if it helped, but we will see.

Geo, my hood has rusted severely on the front lip and destroyed the latching mechanism so I use ratchet straps for now and a hood bra to hold the hood down.

After MRM I have to jump on the boat and get a hood, Paul Grant is a possibility.

I wish I could, if I had a tig welder and some sheet metal.

Weird thing is, I have not seen any other RRC or any Rover for that matter, with a hood as bad as mine. But once I get another hood, it will make working on the truck a lot easier.
