Has anyone upgraded their old headlamp harness to IPF's high-wattage loom? I'm in NEED of more light output from my headlamps. I've been using PIAA GTX Plasma bulbs but I'm just not being able to take advantage of their full output. The plugs aren't doing too wel either. They started to corrode before I started using dielectric grease. If I upgrade the the harness I'd switch to IPF's XX H4 bulbs.
I'd like to hear about your experiences, if any, before I make the purchase. Thanks in advance!

Hey JC,
I can't comment on the IPF brand wiring harness, but any relayed wiring harness upgrade is going to show improvements. I made my own out of some crimp ends (I soldered and used heatshrink tubing) ,heavy gauge wire and 2 Bosch 40amp relays. There was a voltage of 12.2 before and 13.7 after which doesn't sound like a lot but when you have higher wattage bulbs, that's where they shine (pun intended). Basically the heavy gauge of wire supports more amperage. I had the Silverstars bulbs and wasn't impressed with them at all, UNTIL I upgraded the harness. Then they were impressive. Once you upgrade you can run any wattage bulb out there that the amperage rating of your relay can handle. But the ultimate lighting upgrade is HID's... I just installed a set last night and when I thought I already had wikid lights, they just got 200% better. Hope that helps. Dan 99 DII |

Dangit Dan! My fault for not checking this thread earlier!!! I actually ordered the loom already and it should be here either tomorrow or Tuesday...we'll see what the outcome is and if the kit is worth it.
If it's not, I'll get rid of it and try making my own as you've mentioned.

UPDATE: September 14, 2007
I finally got the harness installed. It was A LOT easier than I thought! So easy, I had found a way to complicate it and had to call John Lee up to see what the hek I was doin...lol. I also got the Hella H4 Bulbs. So you get an idea, when my low beams are on and I turn my FF1000s on, the close range light blends in. WAY brighter and MUCH whiter light is now emitted. The low beams are now about 15 yards longer and the high beams are like like Wide Spot beams! Two thumbs up for the IPF headlamp loom!
