If its a pretty stock truck, you could consider this option:
http://www.discoweb.org/cbantenna/index.htm You may need to run an additional ground though.

The absolute best spot to mount an antenna on a Disco be it a 1 or a 2 is dead center on top off the roof. I know, the first thing you think of is how you may prune some trees, and yes you do, but with the right detachable antena with a base load, you can take advantage of the big metal top on your truck and make send and receive signals other people just dream about.
I am using a Wilson antenna, with I believe a 48" stainless whip, that can be threaded off when you not using it. When out wheeling and stretched out over a mile or more, I am always the one who can reach all the others in the group. Now granted there are other, maybe easier places to mount on, but because of all our alummin panels, you tend to onlt send and receive signals of maybe a 120 degree area. Hope this helps, shout if you wanr any more info. Mike |

Of course if he has a magnetic base antenna, he could always do that too.

Chrisvonc, that's a good one... gives me a nice visual... and an idea
![]() Disco Mike, that's a good idea as well, but I am thinking of a roof rack for a rooftop tent. I appreciate the info though ![]() Funrover, that's another good one, and adds to my imagination Thanks all ![]() |

under the tail lights gets my vote. stays out of the way, and fairly difficult to hit. and also pretty easy install. just pop the lights out drill your holes and there ya go.

i have an 8 foot whip on my back bumper. Its removable, and is very flexible, even though i usually tie it down to the roof rail

Bottom line it is not so much the efficiency your looking for but the ease of mounting?
Me, I like to know that if I need help or have to reach someone, I'll be able to be heard where other people in a trail run can't be heard because of a inexpensive antenna or poor placement for the best signal. Mike |
