I would run ARB front and detroit rear, I have seen this combo on a few rovers and on plenty of rock buggies, cab trucks,toyota's,etc..... and it works great. The detroit does kindof hop on tight turns

Yes, and there are plenty of ARB pictures out there too showing how they can fail.

I was advised and do run HR axles because of the Detroit.

And why would anyone put in an Eaton in a Rover??????????????

Good luck with what ever you do.

The only times I have heard of an ARB failing is when some clown engages it while they are spinning wheels.
I biggest issue with the detroit is not their ability to fail, it is their lack of spider gears. That is, their inability to supply drive to both wheels when both have traction and one wheel is turning faster than the other. This defeats the basic concept of a diff.

There are a lot of guys on Pirate running the Toyota third conversions with e-lockers. Besides trusting an electrical component immersed in mud and water, never heard anything bad about them at all.

no e-lockers for Rover yet, but their wires could get "hooked" the same as an ARBs airline. Detriots can cause road handling issues and can break interally if you do break a axle shaft.

For me it is ARB or stock. Once you beef-up the carrier(with a detriot/TrTrac/or ARB), the weak point is the axles, once they are stronger(heavy-duty shafts) you push the stress somewhere else, maybe the driveshafts or t-case. I like having my axles as my weak point. They are easy to fit(on a Disco1) and if they break in the woods you are not as "hosed" as breaking your t-case.

Eaton (Eaton Corp.) makes detroit lockers.. Do they not?

I have no personal experience with lockers as of yet, but Bill at Great Basin told me to do the Tru Trac front and rear plus heavy duty axles for what I wanted, but there was also a case for having the Detroit on the rear depending on the type of wheeling. The Tru Trac on the front sounds like a no brainer. Obviously there are arguments for going with the ARB, but Bill's sound advice weighed heavily on my decision as does Disco Mike's and XtremeMarine's experience so I am going to do the T.T. front and rear on my Disco II.

Detroit lockers are full lockers, not half lockers (whatever that is). You just can't totally control when they lock like with a manually engaged locker.

Tom,
You should have said you can't control when a Detroit unlocks, cause they are normally always locked.

what i meant by half locker, is that T.T is like you said a limited slip. and detroit unlocks and locks on its on. where ARB when you lock it. it is 100% locked no matter what, that is all i meant..

and Eaton makes Detroit and T.T disco mike.

Only when going in a straight line with no bumps or when there is poor traction. Is this your "normal" driving?
