Good Thread, been looking into bumpers for a RRC myself for some time now. I see the point about the ARB bumpers. They look like someone just nicked it off a freight train and welded it onto a Rover, Way too big, and heavy by all accounts. If not done right a tube style bumper can look just as bad, like the Rover crashed into a childs swing set or some scaffolding. I'm not a fan of the "jungle gym" on wheels look. I like the look of the rovertym bumpers and Denny's looks good too, are these bumpers heavy? With the weight of the engine, dual battery set-up, underhood gadets and winch I dont want the Rover to be any more nose heavy than it has to.

The RTE Bumpers are very heavy because they are made out of 1/4" boxed steel. But on the positive side they are about as tough as they come. With RTE and Winch you'll want to run the HD springs up front.

Yes RTE's are heavy but they are heavy for a reason. They are one of the toughest bumpers out there and if you are considering bang for the buck. The RTE is a cheap in comparison to other bumpers of similar quality and durability. Safari Gard and Trek Outfitters are both more expensive and not as good IMO.
RTE Bumpers are not for everybody but if you're going to use your truck as a trail rig it's hard to beat an RTE. If you're mostly cruising at the mall or on the Interstate you probably don't have a use for one.

The problem here is the use of the word "affordable" in a Land Rover forum

floydp680,
If I were in your seat I would either look hard for a good used RTE, SG, Safari-Equip (like mine) or other quality bumper that someone is selling off of their truck or save my clams to get a new one. Not cheap or expensive but up to your needs. Also if it were me looking for a new to me bumper I would look for one that has recover points in the front of the bumper and not underneath because you'll drag it across or hang up on every rock or always be way under water/mud when you need to get to it. Another thing to look for is the thickness of the metal in the areas most often get friendly with rocks. Last thing would be the style of mount it has so you know that when you start winching or run into something trees, rocks, hills, cars, shopping carts, deer it won't be smiling or look like it got kicked in the chin or beat down. And if your going to take the kids to the mall it HAS to have mounts for limb risers. |
