That is a pretty good price, depending on what they get you for shipping and how long it takes to get to you. If you order one please post back on your experiance dealing with that company, etc.. I too would be interested in the Saudi spec grill as mine is damaged and am not willing to shell out the cash they want for a new one! Plus I just like the looks of the mesh and the added benefit of extra cooling in our hot Kentucky summers. Northeastbritishparts seems to be always out of stock on those grills. |

good price, but it looks cheap from the pic. You can buy overlapping wire mesh, nearly identical to the real thing for about $35 per quare yard, or sheet...not sure how they measure it. And then just modify yours with it.....
....cheaper and it will turn out much better looking if you do it right.

Very true. Still, it may look cheaper, but it's also at least $100 cheaper than the real thing. hmm, I wonder how much shipping is? I may end up ordering this for my birthday

I am not looking for something "bling". I am looking for something to make the D1 look different and functional. The NYC summer heat and humidity is more rough on automotive equipment than the desert. One point of interest, there have been several designs of Discovery grilles. I have seen at least four designs up to 1999, and I own the one from the 1995-1996 epoch. You have two large support beams coming down to support the middle of the grille. I could with a sawzall just cut them out but then there would not be any central support for the grille. If I could get just the outside collar, I would do it.. But no workshop, no garage, I streetpark, and just dealing with the Manik stepbars has shown me that doing any mods is a real witch. It also does not help that I now have been diagnosed with a bad heart. So what were you going to say? Adam in NYC

Adam, I would do it right, either buy the real thing, or make it yourself. I have found out that going cheap hurts me in the long run, or at least on average......I think it looks cool, and if I get around to making it I would do it in my home garage....it wont be any more mess then any other project and I can probably do it with wire cutters and an electric hand drill.....for about $35 total and a couple hours of my time. I would have to look at it more to deal with the supports you are talking about.....but Im sure that can be solved rather easily also.

It makes sense.....humidity and salt in the air are worse then the desert....the desert being dry and hot/cold.
Adam...im sorry about your heart, but I think you would be much happier with something done by yourself......seeing that you would be able to drop in a new grill, you able probably capable to do what it takes to make your own that is even better and less expensive. You can even sit down while you make it....though it should only take you an hour or two once you have the wire mesh and tools. If I make my own I can post a how to....step by step thing.

I'll do that tomorrow when I get home. It's a very simple design. I saw some pics on another board of other homemade designs, if I find it I will post it. Josh, we both know you like goats and I prefer sheep ![]()

In the FDNY, we used to have gas ambulances based on the Silverado chassis. They would run 24/7 until something failed. In the South Bronx, you were too busy to park. When I worked summer nights, the internal a.c. would not function because the body of the vehicle had too much heat in it from being in the sun all day. You could not touch the metal panels without getting burned. We then had to head first to a open fire hydrant, put the nose into the large stream of water, that by the way would also bend the radiator, and when the heat got out of all the body, then the a.c. would start working. FDNY rules that you can only put an ambulance out of service if there is no ac in the back, usually it was about 110 or 120 degrees in the front cab. Nowadays, they have Ford diesel F-250s which are even crappier, not by Ford but by the manufacturer of the ambulance. It is the middle of the winter, and many "buses" come to my job with no heat. Just so you know. Adam in NYC By the way, the Lego bus is the new one the FDNY bought. They actually have it on the street but the kids keep taking it apart.
