Hi Guys,
Just ordered a Sony CDX-GT610Ui for my DISCO II for the iPod and USB port. Any tricks to removing the factory unit? and any idea, if there is a way I can keep my steering wheel radio controls? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Your new head unit likely comes with the required tools to remove the old one (just two small metal hooks that slide in the slits in the face). As for the steering wheel controls: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-66lBEA9...8900&I=127SWIX

Got the Crutchfield VW wiring harness, Swapped the yellow and red wire. Removed the old radio. Plugged in the new unit and viola!
Sounds way better (and louder) then that factory Alpine did. Just need a nice sunny day to tear apart the console to install the XM tuner and run the iPod controller. Those wiring diagrams came in very handy..Thanks again. ![]()

Okay... might be a dumb question, but are the LR stock units (I have an '03 with Kenwood ..i think) a separate amp and unit? I've been considering replacing the unit for better iPod connection but haven't really pursued it because of the 12 or 13 speakers and amp thing. If it's that straightforward, I'll be heading out next week for a Sony unit like that.

It was that easy...I used the wiring diagram provided above and corelated it to the Crutchfield/Sony Harness, plugged in the harness ...All of an hour. and the rest of the system sounds amazing now...Don't think I'll be replacing the speakers either.
